West Ham vs Burnley: Preview and Prediction

England Premier League
Saturday 16th January 2021
Kick off at 3pm GMT
Venue: London Stadium

Match Preview:

Draws have held back West Ham who have actually lost just twice from their last 10 games. But they have only won 50% of their games in that time and the Hammers come into this match at the weekend in 10th place.

West Ham have 26 points and a possible Europa League finish could be on the cards if they keep up their form. David Moyes side advanced in the FA Cup as they beat Stockport County 1-0 and their last league game was an impressive win at Everton. They have gone their last 3 games without defeat and at home the Hammers have lost just once in their last five but with just 3 wins from 8 games played they will feel that isn’t a good enough record.

Burnley are in 16th place and four points from the bottom three and 10 points behind their hosts. Form has been inconsistent and their last game ended in a 1-0 defeat at home to Manchester United. Away from home the club have the 3rd to worst record losing 50% of their games and winning just once, that sole victory so far came against Arsenal.

Whilst Sean Dyche’s team are likely to stay in the same position even with a win they could move seven points clear of danger if Fulham lose to Chelsea and that would be a huge step in the right direction for a club who have started the season slowly.

Team News:

West Ham: Issa Diop will be assessed ahead of the game due to fitness issues. There has been no update on Lukasz Fabianski as he had a thigh injury but is being tipped to be fine for this game. Ryan Fredericks is due back after he had Covid-19 but he hasn’t been confirmed to be selected.

Burnley: Jimmy Dunne is being tipped to return after his recent knock. Charlie Taylor only has an estimated 50/50 chance to make this fixture after his hamstring injury.

West Ham vs Burnley Head to Head:

Last season West Ham lost this match 1-0.

Burnley have won the last 3 league meetings against West Ham.

West Ham last beat Burnley when at home in 2018 with that game ending 4-2.

West Ham vs Burnley Prediction:

On paper West Ham should win this game but there are reports of tensions within the club as they sold striker Sebastien Haller to Ajax a few days ago and that hasn’t gone down well with some of the players, also he hasn’t for now been replaced.

However West Ham have some solid results behind them but this game could be a banana skin one for them considering that Burnley have a very good record over the Hammers recently.

The temptation is to back the away team as they are very good value, although understand the risks involved given that Burnley have won just once away from home. If there has been infighting though then the Hammers may not be as prepared as they need to be coming into this game. True Burnley had to play in midweek but they put in a decent performance only losing to a very good Paul Pogba goal. Burnley have little too lose here at this stage of the season, and it could work in their favour, therefore we feel a +1 asian handicap is a very safe option as West Ham would have to win by 2 goals for the bet to lose.

West Ham vs Burnley Betting Tips:

Asian handicap (+1 Burnley) at 1.525

Correct Score: 1-1 draw or Burnley to win 1-0 at 7.00 and 11.00
