Brighton vs Man City: Preview & Prediction

England Premier League
Thursday 25th April 2024
Kick off at 8pm BST
Venue: Amex Stadium

Match Preview:

Brighton face a difficult task to beat the champions but with 44 points one would feel that if the Seagulls were to lose here their chances for qualifying for Europe next season would be slim to zero. It creeps up quick but it has been six weeks since Brighton managed to win a game which came against Nottingham Forest at home and since then they have won just two points. Last weekend Roberto De Zerbi’s side had no football to play due to Manchester City being involved in the FA Cup semi finals and so their last game was over 10 days ago as they could only draw with 19th placed Burnley. At home Brighton have only lost two games so far but their Achilles heel has been the number of draws here with six so far although they have also managed to win seven games. The club's last home match ended in a 3-0 defeat to Arsenal.

It’s been quite a week for Manchester City who are well in the hunt for a domestic double but were dumped out of the Champions League at the quarter final stage by Real Madrid, that’s huge news given that City were the holders. However the following weekend they were able to reach the FA Cup final as they beat Chelsea 1-0. City has managed to win their last three games in a row beating Aston Villa, Crystal Palace and Luton and they are scoring goals too- they have banged in 13 in those matches to go just six goals behind Arsenal but having played two games less. On the road City has the second best record with 10 victories from 15 games and 32 points from 45, in their last 10 away games City has won 70% of the time losing just once.

Team News:

Brighton: Julio Enciso has a knock and is a doubt, Pervis Estupinan could be assessed as he recovers from an ankle injury. Evan Ferguson looks set to miss out with an ankle injury, Billy Gilmour is training after a knee injury but is only 50/50 to make this game. James Milner and Adam Webster are only 50/50 to return for this game with respective muscle injuries. Jack Hinshelwood, Tariq Lamptey, Kaoru Mitoma and Soloman March are all out with no fixed return dates.

Manchester City: Erling Haaland has been ruled out although it is thought to be a risk assessment as he has a minor muscle injury, and is in line to return this weekend, he is the only injury concern for the champions.

Brighton vs Man City Head to Head:

Last season this fixture finished 1-1.

Manchester City have won 12 of the last 14 meetings, with one draw and one win for Brighton.

The last three meetings in a row have all seen both teams to score.

Brighton vs Man City Prediction:

It’s now or never for Brighton if they have any ambitions for Europe but many will be expecting them to lose this game even though they have a solid record at home. For Manchester City Arsenal have laid down the marker and City know what they have to do, they come into this game four points behind the Gunners however they have two games in hand, so not all is lost, but one would think with Liverpool in the mix too City would need to get something here. The injury loss of Erling Haaland feels like a blow but at the same time the Norwegian hasn’t shown the best of form over the past month and City have been able to adapt without him in the team, let’s remind ourselves that he was missing for two months in the first half of the campaign. There are of course goalscorers all over this team but they will need to dig deep as we expect Brighton to be dangerous. City need to look at Arsenal’s great performance over Brighton the other week and that type of result needs to be replicated. We are at a crossroads- which team will blink first and quite frankly it has made the title run a very exciting prospect.
