West Brom vs Leicester: Preview and Prediction

England Premier League
Sunday 13th September 2020
Kick off at 2pm BST
Venue: The Hawthorns

Match Preview:

It’s taken 2 years but West Bromwich Albion are back in the Premier League and the team will be relishing this game on Sunday. It won’t be easy against Leicester, but being at home the Hawthorns will be hoping for a positive start.

The club has realised it has to step up and released more than 20 players in the summer. Their most eye catching addition so far looks to be Matheus Pereira, the attacking midfielder has come from Sporting CP.

WBA have only been able to fit in one pre-season game recently which ended in a 0-0 draw against Brighton.

Leicester might still be reeling from the last day of the season where they saw Chelsea and Manchester United pip them for a Champions League place. The Foxes played three pre-season games all much inspired against lower league teams but they did remain unbeaten. Their final pre-season game ended 1-1 against Blackburn.

Brendan Rodgers side have brought in three players including spending £21m on right back Timothy Castagne from Atalanta. Their biggest departue this season was Ben Chilwell who joined Chelsea.

Team News:

West Brom: The club have no new major concerns coming into this game

Leicester: Jonny Evans is suspended for the first 3 games of the season after being sent off in the final game of last season. Christian Fuchs has a groin injury from last season and isn’t expected back until mid October. James Maddison is recovering from a hip injury, he is 50/50 for this game but could be rested further. Wes Morgan has a hamstring injury but will be assessed for the game

West Brom vs Leicester Head to Head:

The last time the teams met here in 2018 Leicester won 4-1.

WBA have not beaten Leicester at home since 2010.

6 of the last 7 league meetings have seen both teams to score.

West Brom vs Leicester Prediction:

This is a difficult game to predict, the first game of the season and WBA will be up for the match even if Leicester do have the better team. WBA can get something from this one, we expect a tight game and nothing like the last time they met.

We simply haven’t seen enough of Leicester in pre-season to make any judgements and by and large they have been quiet in the transfer market. WBA will only survive in the league based on their home form, so we will back them to get something from this game.
