Sweden vs Switzerland: Preview and Prediction

World Cup 2018 - Last 16
Tuesday 3rd July 2018
Kick off at 3pm BST
Venue: Saint-Petersburg Stadium

Match Preview:

If you had said to either Sweden or Switzerland that there would be the opportunity to progress to the quarter final stage before the World Cup started, both nations would have grabbed it, and through their hard work they now have that opportunity.

Both nations will remain unfancied to go further in the competition but both have shown that hard work and resilience can go a long way against better equipped teams. Sweden progressed from a group containing world champions Germany and only lost to them through a 95th minute goal. They beat South Korea in their opening game and then put the impressive Mexico to the sword with a one sided 3-0 win.

Switzerland looked dead and buried against Brazil in the group stages when they went an early goal behind. But they did not play along and came back into the game becoming a real threat before scoring an equaliser and the game ended 1-1 in what was seen as a shock. The Swiss followed that up with a 2-1 win over Serbia and then drew 2-2 in their final group game against Costa Rica.

Both sides are evenly matched and very physical and this should be a fascintaing encounter which could play out like a game of chess, who will blink first?

Sweden vs Switzerland Team News:

Sweden vs Switzerland Prediction:

This is a very difficult game to call. Both teams are very evenly matched, both are well organised with good players but no major superstars. This game could be quite cagey, and we don't see more than one goal separating the two teams. The game should open up more in the second half and our main bet will be to see more goals in the 2nd half.

Sweden vs Switzerland Betting Tips:
