Southampton vs Watford: Preview and Prediction

England Premier League
Saturday 10th November 2018
Kick off at 3pm GMT
Venue: St Mary's Stadium

Match Preview:

Southampton are in 16th place with 6 points and are a contender to get sucked into the looming relegation battle. Last weekend they went to Manchester City and lost 6-1. The defeat was heavy and perhaps the only thing that they could take from the game was that they scored a goal. It was their first goal since September 17th.

The Saints have won just 1 game all season, and it is matches at home to Watford at the weekend will count, and a win really is needed on Saturday. The problem is that they have yet to win at St Mary’s, just how long can that go on?

Watford are in 8th and on 19 points and have had a healthy start to their Premier League campaign. The problem is that the club are all over the place. One week they will win a game in solid fashion the next as in evidenced last weekend with their loss to Newcastle, they will simply not show up.

Just 7 points from their 19 have come away from home and only a surprise 2-0 victory over Wolves is their only away win in their past 4 games.

Team News:

Southampton: Wesley Hoedt has a foot injection, and whilst manager Mark Hughes remains optimistic it feels like a stretch that the player will be ready for this game. Mario Lemina has a good chance to make the squad after his thigh injury

Watford: Etienne Capoue is banned for this game after picking up 5 yellow cards. Tom Cleverley will not return until after the international break.

Southampton vs Watford Head to Head:

Last season Southampton won this fixture 1-0.

Watford last won here in 2017 which was the first time since 2008.

The last 4 fixtures at Southampton when they have hosted Watford have all been under 2.5 goals.

Southampton vs Watford Prediction:

If Watford can turn up they have the team to beat Southampton for sure. The Saints have been very poor and it is hard to see where Mark Hughes team will pick up the points in what could be a long hard struggle for the club. There is a feeling though that this is a game that could potentially be very open and full of goals, but Watford will need to play their part. For this game we will look into the goals market and try to get some value out of one of the lesser Premier League games to take place this weekend.
