Real Madrid vs Liverpool: Preview and Prediction

UEFA Champions League
Saturday 26th May 2018
Kick off at 7.45pm BST
Venue: NSC Olimpiyskiy Stadium

Match Preview:

The Champions League final will be contested between two teams who have European glory engraved into their DNA - Real Madrid and Liverpool. The two clubs have won the European Cup 17 times between them and have contested 7 finals between them since 2000.

Real Madrid will start as the favourites as they try to win the competition for the 3rd consecutive time. The last time this was achieved was back in 1976 with Germans Bayern Munich. Madrid have already made history winning the Champions League back to back- the first club to do this since the new format began in 1993.

Real Madrid had to overcome Bayern Munich in the semi finals and Liverpool beat Roma in their thrilling two legged match. Liverpool have a good history over Real Madrid, although that has changed in recent times with Madrid having the upper hand.

This final is being predicted to be an entertaining one with both teams having devastating attacks whilst having flaws at the back and this should make for a fast paced match. Zinedine Zidane’s side had a game to play in Spain at the weekend as the season ended a week later than in England but the club have been able to rotate and rest players ahead of the final, so fatigue shouldn't be a big issue.

Real Madrid vs Liverpool Team News:

Real Madrid: After a slight scare it seems that Cristiano Ronaldo will be available for the final and Zidane has a full squad

Liverpool: The majority of Liverpool's key players are available, however Joel Matip, Joe Gomez, and Alex Oclade-Chamberlain remain sidelined.

Real Madrid vs Liverpool Head to Head:

The last time the sides met was in the 2014 Champions League group stage where Real Madrid both their home and away fixtures without conceding.

The teams have met in the European Cup final once before in 1981 where Liverpool won 1-0.

In their last 5 matches played, Liverpool have 3 wins and Real Madrid 2.

In those 5 matches there is a 100% success rate not to see both teams to score.

Real Madrid vs Liverpool Prediction:

If Real Madrid play like they have in the Champions League they should have the quality to win this game. If they play like they have domestically then Liverpool will have few problems. The problems for both teams is that they look like getting exposed at the back with every attack. This should be the first encounter between the two sides where we see both teams to score. Liverpool’s Jurgen Klopp does not have a great record in finals and it could be set to continue but Madrid will have to be at their absolute best to win this game.

Real Madrid vs Liverpool Betting Tips:

Anytime goalscorer: Cristiano Ronaldo at 1.72

Half time correct score: 1-1 or 2-1 to Real Madrid at 6.50 and 17.00
