Newcastle vs Brighton: Preview and Prediction

England Premier League
Sunday 20th September 2020
Kick off at 2pm BST
Venue: St. James' Park

Match Preview:

On Sunday afternoon Newcastle will entertain Brighton, with Brighton making their longest trip of the season to play Steve Bruce’s side.

Newcastle got off to a flyer last weekend as they went to West Ham and came away with a 2-0 victory. The Magpies will be pleased with their performance showing the right amount of hunger and passion to win the game with ease. To add to the result they also advanced in the Carabao Cup in midweek by overcoming Blackburn and winning 1-0.

Brighton lost 3-1 to Chelsea in a result that was probably expected, however Brighton had a fair share of the game, some great chances, and played good football. They will be looking to bounce back, but away to a confident Newcastle side will not be easy. Graham Potter’s side did get a great result on Thursday though when they destroyed Portsmouth 4-0 in the Carabao Cup and it would have been very important for the club to get that winning feeling back before this game, it was also an advantage for them that it was at home and for the club it needs to be upwards from here on in.

Team News:

Newcastle: Matthew Longstaff looks to be ruled out for this month at least with a thigh injury. Dwight Gayle is long term and looks set to miss the rest of the year with his knee.

Brighton: Adam Lallana is a doubt with a knock but will be assessed. Dale Stephens has the same problem but the good news is that neither player has been fully ruled out as of yet

Newcastle vs Brighton Head to Head:

The last two league meetings between the clubs have finished with the same correct score of 0-0.

The clubs in modern times have played each other six times in the Premier League with every game ending in under 2.5 goals.

In the last decade they have only played at Newcastle 4 times, with one win a piece and 2 draws.

3 of the last 5 meetings have been 0-0 at half time.

Newcastle vs Brighton Prediction:

We predict Newcastle will get the win here and that the game could see few goals. Not just based on history, which points that way but we also have to respect, for now, Newcastle’s defence which has played 2 competitive games so far and not conceded, that will give them a lot of confidence.

It is still early in the season, Brighton could come here and get the win and everything changes, but a lot does point to a home victory as Bruce continues to make small miracles at the club and punch above his weight.

We will also look into the anytime goalscorer market which is great value as always.

Newcastle vs Brighton Betting Tips:

Asian handicap (0.0 Newcastle) at 1.89

Anytime goalscorer: Callum Wilson at 2.80
