Man City vs Crystal Palace: Preview and Prediction

England Premier League
Saturday 18th January 2020
Kick off at 3pm GMT
Venue: Etihad Stadium

Match Preview:

This fixture brings up memories of last season when Crystal Palace came here and stunned the champions with a 3-2 win and City will be determined to not let that happen again.

The good news for Pep Guardiola’s team is that they are finally in 2nd place after surpassing Leicester. It took several months to do so but their form has really picked up and they have gone almost a month without defeat.

Whilst the league looks lost, psychology could take place. What if City were to win this game? They would suddenly be 11 points behind Liverpool, with the Reds not playing until Sunday, and that game could be a tricky one against Manchester United, the only club to have taken points from Jurgen Klopp’s team this season.

All City can do is turn up and give out a performance and give themselves a small chance to try and worry Liverpool. They do, at least, look on course to come 2nd. City have won their last 3 games in a row scoring 10 goals in that time including their last match which ended in a 6-1 win over Aston Villa. From a possible 33 points at home City have got 25 and alongside Liverpool have scored the most goals at home so far with 29.

Crystal Palace have a mounting injury list but the Eagles are battlers if nothing else. They did really well last weekend to come back against Arsenal and that match finished 1-1. They have drawn their last 3 games in a row and haven’t lost a league match since before the Christmas period.

The Eagles have only lost 1 away game in their last five, but some could argue they have had a good set of games having not had to face top six teams. Overall Palace have drawn 40% of their games.

Team News:

Manchester City: The club have no new injuries coming into this game.

Crystal Palace: Max Meyer has an ankle injury and is fighting to be fit for this game. Luka Milivojevic is suspended after his red card earlier this month.

Man City vs Crystal Palace Prediction:

Manchester City seem very focused to keep picking up the points and one is reminded of their title run in from last season. It could become unhinged when the Champions League starts up again next month so there is a real focus on getting these points in now. It almost feels (and no one is saying it) that Guardiola is making one final push to see if Liverpool will crack and start dropping points, before giving up the ghost.

City are big odds on so we will look into different markets. Raheem Sterling is a good price for anytime goalscorer so we will back him as he will be fresh from being rested in their last match.

Man City vs Crystal Palace Betting Tips:

1st half asian handicap (-1 Man City) at 1.675

Anytime goalscorer: Raheem Sterling at 1.82
