Liverpool vs Norwich: Preview and Prediction

Match Preview:

The Premier League is back and it all kicks off this Friday when Liverpool host newly promoted Norwich at Anfield.

The Reds had a fantastic last season winning the Champions League, which made up for their 2018 loss, and ended the league season with an astounding 97 points. And yet it still wasn’t enough to win the league for the first time in 29 years. That wait goes on after their epic battle with Manchester City, and coming into this new season the general thinking is that the league will be between the two clubs once again.

So far with only 1 day until the transfer window closes Liverpool have been very quiet in the market. At the same time manager Jurgen Klopp will believe that he didn’t need to splash out millions in this window, after all once you include Alison in goal, Liverpool have arguably the best defence in the league. Also not signing anyone of proven quality should give the first 11 a lot of confidence that their manager fully believes in them for the season ahead.

While Liverpool have been quiet they have brought in 3 new players. Sepp van den Berg a defender comes from PEC Zwolle for just over a million. Adrian has been brought in from West Ham as goalkeeper cover given Simon Mignolet’s move to Club Brugge. Harvey Elliott is just 16 and the exciting winger will join the club from Fulham but the clubs will go to a tribunal to settle the final fee.

Liverpool’s pre season has not been good with defeats to Borussia Dortmund, Napoli and Sevilla. They did beat Lyon 3-1 in Switzerland however they also lost the Community Shield against Manchester City, although the game went to penalties with the final score ending 1-1.

Norwich are back in the top flight after winning the Championship last season with 94 points. The Canaries lost just 6 games last season but they can expect to lose much more in the Premier League.

They have been handed a very tough start to the season not just playing the current European champions but at Anfield too. Daniel Farke’s side had a mixed pre season where they lost to the likes of Brentford, Schalke and Atalanta. Although in their last game they pulled off a 1-0 win over French side Toulouse.

There’s no doubt that Norwich are packed with players that are good, you don’t get almost 100 points in the second tier of English football without them, but the Premier League is such a massive step up and some of their transfers in haven’t really caught the eye with all due respect. Although bringing in Josip Drmic from Borussia Monchengladbach to the forward line could be good. The Swiss player has a wealth of European experience.

Team News:

Liverpool: The only doubt for the Reds is James Milner who has a slight muscle problem and missed the Community Shield as a result but this seems more of a precaution and he could be included in the side

Norwich: Timm Klose has had a hip injury in pre season but he is expected to recover in time for this match. Christoph Zimmerman looks set to miss this game with a knee injury and will be aiming to be back for the week after

Liverpool vs Norwich Head to Head:

The teams have not met each other in over 3 years with the last game having 9 goals, as Liverpool won 5-4.

The last time the teams played at Anfield the game ended 1-1.

Liverpool have won 7 of the last 9 games with the other two matches ending in a draw.

Both teams have scored in the last 4 meetings.

Liverpool vs Norwich Prediction:

Liverpool should have no problems to win this game with the only doubts being that it is the first match of the season and have there been any after effects from their epic battle with Man City, which ended only a few months ago? It’s possible that if this match was in a few months time with Liverpool really in the thick of it they could get a big score but with this being the first game we should expect Norwich to go out there with little to lose and enjoy themselves.

Having said that Klopp has so many options for goals and being at home they will come out on the full attack. Liverpool are massive odds on to win the game at around 1.10 with some bookmakers offering up to 21.00 on a Norwich victory. Therefore we will look into different markets.

Liverpool vs Norwich Betting Tips:

Both teams to score at 2.25

Correct Score: Liverpool to win 3-1 or 4-1 at 11.00 and 15.00
