Everton vs Sheffield Utd: Preview and Prediction

England Premier League
Saturday 21st September 2019
Kick off at 3pm BST
Venue: Goodison Park

Match Preview:

Everton come into this game having fallen to 11th with two losses in their last 3 games. What has been worrying for the club is the amount of goals they have been conceding, 7 goals in their last three games. Last weekend they went down meekly to Bournemouth 3-1, and even though it was away from home, it would have been seen as a poor result by Marco Silva’s team who spent money in the summer bringing in new recruits.

Both of Everton’s defeats have come away from home, and at Goodison Park they have claimed wins over Wolves and Watford and will be the favourites in this game to get all three points. But drop points here and there could well be talks of a mini crisis looming at the club.

Sheffield United are in 15th place and a win here would take them above Everton. The clubs last game ended in a 1-0 home defeat at the hands of Southampton and they have no wins in their last 3 outings. However it is clear that the Blades are ready to up their game against quality teams in the league, they hung in there to get a 2-2 draw at Chelsea, so cannot be taken lightly. At the same time United will be one of the favourites to go straight back down. What has been interesting is that even when they have lost it has only been by one goal margins and they are not getting rolled over just yet.

Team News:

Everton: Andre Gomes is expected back after a rib injury but will be assessed ahead of the game. Jonas Lossl is 50/50 to return to the bench after his calf injury

Sheffield United: Billy Sharp is suspended after being sent off v Southampton and will miss the rest of the month. Muhamed Besic is ineligible to play against his parent club.

Everton vs Sheffield Utd Head to Head:

The clubs have not met since 2011 when at Goodison Park Everton won 3-1.

In the last 15 years the sides have only met 3 times with 2 wins for Everton and one draw.

There is a 66% chance that both teams will score.

Everton vs Sheffield Utd Prediction:

Does Marco Silva know his best team? For sure new signing Alex Iwobi has made an impression and he is sure to start. But Moise Kean hasn’t always impressed Silva enough and he has been benched again. The Blades have proved they are a side that stay in games, and that could be a danger because Everton after an excellent pre-season where they conceded few goals are now shipping too many. Still at home they have proved they can be solid and should be difficult to beat and one would expect when you look at both the squads that Everton will triumph here.
