Crystal Palace vs Burnley: Preview and Prediction

England Premier League
Monday 29th June 2020
Kick off at 8pm BST
Venue: Selhurst Park

Match Preview:

Monday evening’s game will take place between Crystal Palace who are in 10th place and Burnley in 11th so this should be quite an interesting game as both clubs look to push into the top half of the table.

Palace beat Bournemouth 2-0 in their first game since the restart and looked good for their win but were outclassed away to Liverpool losing 4-0. The victory for Liverpool was impressive given how good Palace’s defence has been this season.

At home Palace have remained unpredictable this season winning 6 games but losing 5 and some of those losses have come against teams in mid table or lower, although they have only conceded 13 goals, which is a good record.

Like Palace, Burnley have lost by a big score line since the restart and that was 5-0 against Manchester City, just underlining how far both City and Liverpool are out in front of the rest of the league.

At least Sean Dyche’s team followed up their 5-0 defeat at City with a vital 1-0 win over Watford and both of these teams have the advantage knowing they will be safe this season coming into this game.

Team News:

Crystal Palace: Christian Benteke has a minor muscle injury which ruled him out of the clubs last game but he will be assessed for this one and could make it. Vicente Guaita has a thigh strain and will face a test ahead of the game. Martin Kelly has a calf injury and is expected to be out for a few weeks. Wilfried Zaha has a calf strain and is 50/50 to make this match

Burnley: Ashley Barnes could miss the rest of the season as his groin injury looks worse than feared with a slower recovery time. Robert Brady looks like he will be ruled out with a groin injury. Jay Rodriguez has a hamstring injury and was taken off in the clubs last game but it isn’t though to be too serious and he could well take part in this game

Crystal Palace vs Burnley Head to Head:

In the reverse game earlier this season Crystal Palace won 2-0.

Crystal Palace have won the last 4 meetings in a row against the teams.

Wilfried Zaha has scored against Burnley in the last two meetings.

5 of the last 6 games have seen under 2.5 goals.

Crystal Palace vs Burnley Prediction:

When we look at this fixture it is certainly advantage Crystal Palace. They have had the pickings of this fixture for some time. At home they will fancy their chances and have the extra motivation knowing that they would also lose their position to Burnley.

But we should expect a very close game, maybe settled by a piece of magic. We expect Palace to edge this game though and both teams should start brightly given that they have conceded 9 goals between them since the league restarted, this match gives them that opportunity to put those results behind them.
