Chelsea vs Man City: Preview and Prediction

England Premier League
Thursday 25th June 2020
Kick off at 8:15pm BST
Venue: Stamford Bridge

Match Preview:

This game has the potential to be a classic even with our new back drop of no fans in attendance. These two teams are still professionals loaded with some of the best players in Europe. Chelsea are focused on finishing in a Champions League position whilst Manchester City, who know the league is gone have two objectives. To continue their trajectory to be ready for the Champions League and also to delay the title a little longer for Liverpool.

Frank Lampard’s side were very good against Aston Villa, a team many expected them to beat but at the same time playing away to Villa who are battling relegation and the fact it was Chelsea’s first game in 3 months did not make the encounter easy for them. What was impressive is how they had to come back from a goal down and impose themselves on the game, and they just oozed quality throughout those 90 minutes and came through 2-1. That win has put the Blues on 51 points and they are currently 5 points in front of 5th placed Manchester United. This game will be their one in hand over Leicester and if they were to win they would have cut the Foxes points haul to just one, so there is a chance Chelsea could even finish in 3rd place.

Manchester City have been spectacular since the football restart, beating Arsenal 3-0 and then putting 5 goals past Burnley for an 8-0 goal record after two games. The champions are simply enjoying their football, and they have goals all over the team, though they will be disappointed in Sergio Aguero’s latest injury.

Overall City have won 4 of their last 5 matches and on the road this season they have won 9 games from 15. They share a record with Bournemouth interestingly enough which is both sides have only drawn 1 game each away from home.

Team News:

Chelsea: The Blues have no new injuries coming into this game

Manchester City: The biggest news for City is the knee injury of Sergio Aguero sustained in their match against Burnley. The player could miss the rest of the season as a result and is certainly ruled out of the next five matches at least. Eric Garcia is recovering from concussion from the Arsenal game and may be rested for this one. John Stones has an ankle injury but will be assessed ahead of the game

Chelsea vs Man City Head to Head:

Earlier this season in the reverse fixture Manchester City beat Chelsea 2-1.

Last season this fixture ended 2-0 to Chelsea.

In the last 9 games played at Stamford Bridge Manchester City have only won twice.

Chelsea vs Man City Prediction:

We are set to see a very technical game of football that will be watched by millions of fans in the country and outside it. One of those reasons is that if Liverpool have beaten Crystal Palace the day before this game then City need to win otherwise Liverpool will be champions.

City should dominate possession and have their chances but Chelsea will have plenty of attacks too. There is a feeling here that Chelsea could well settle for a draw, however with nothing really to lose now, Man City will be looking to march on. Therefore we believe this game could well contain goals.
