Burnley vs West Ham: Preview and Prediction

England Premier League
Saturday 9th November 2019
Kick off at 3pm GMT
Venue: Turf Moor

Match Preview:

Burnley come into this game in 14th place and are in poor form having lost their last 3 matches. Last weekend they lost 3-0 away to Sheffield United and they are a point behind their visitors.

Sean Dyche’s team have lost 45% of their games and at home have won 60%, with 2 losses from 5 games. Those defeats came against Chelsea and Liverpool so there should be little surprise, but there is a feeling that the team are not performing to their top standards. In one way the club look likely to be fighting for survival but in another could well have a season without incident.

On form West Ham would be in 18th position and after a poor run of games there has even been whisperings that manager Manuel Pellegrini could be on borrowed time. Fans have complained that the Chilean so lauded when he arrived at the club doesn’t have many ideas, one of those being he replaces players in games for like for like and sticks with the same tactics no matter how the game is going.

The Hammers have won 2 points from their last 15 and lost to Newcastle at home last weekend. It would have been the manner in how they were defeated that was grating. Conceding 3 goals to Newcastle who had previously scored 6 in 10 games, is worrying times.

The Londoners have only won once on the road so far this season and that was against bottom club Watford. Although they have only lost once too and have drawn 3 games. Their last away game ended in a 2-0 loss at Everton.

Team News:

Burnley: Chris Wood is pencilled in to return from his hamstring but is likely to be assessed beforehand

West Ham: Jack Wilshire’s return from a groin injury looks to have been put back another week, but the player will have a late decision for this game. Winston Reid is nearing a return but this game could have come just too early after fitness issues

Burnley vs West Ham Head to Head:

Last season this fixture ended 2-0 to Burnley.

West Ham have not won away to Burnley since 2017.

The teams have played 7 times at Burnley this decade with the home side winning just 2 of those games.

Burnley vs West Ham Prediction:

Both sides come here in poor form and one wonders if the two of them would just be happy to take a point here. For West Ham their form has been very frustrating because they have a decent attacking side. Sebastian Haller for example has been a major let down despite scoring a few goals he has been incredibly quiet. Burnley could get a foothold on this game and if they start brightly there is no chance for West Ham. The best bet could be a draw at full time, but we feel Burnley could just have enough here to beat a West Ham side who look shot of confidence and are poor on the road. Check to see if Chris Wood makes the team, if so he is worth backing to get a goal.
