Brighton vs Liverpool: Preview and Prediction

England Premier League
Wednesday 8th July 2020
Kick off at 8:15pm BST
Venue: Amex Stadium

Match Preview:

Brighton are 9 points clear of the bottom three and they should be safe this season yet Graham Potter would want another win just to confirm it. The only problem is the clubs next game is against the newly crowned champions who have lost 3 games in the last two seasons.

The club have had some tough fixtures lately including having to play Arsenal and Manchester United but from their 4 games since the restart they have walked away with 7 points. With the team flirting with relegation beforehand these points have been vital and in their last game they beat bottom placed Norwich 1-0.

Currently Brighton are in 15th place and have a six point lead over 16th, with West Ham occupying that position. Latest form would have Brighton in 11th and at home they have won 5 games this season. Recent home form is not good though with just 1 win from their past five games.

Liverpool bounced back from their 4-0 beating at Manchester City to ease past Aston Villa 2-0 at home which means they have a 100% record still in their own stadium. Whilst the Reds still have the best away record in the league it is interesting to see that they have no wins in their last 3 games.

Though the league is over now and Liverpool are champions they will hopefully still have the drive to play good football because they could beat the points record total of 100 points achieved by Manchester City two seasons ago. At present the club could get a total of 104 points, though it is evident that they have had their foot off the pedal also.

Team News:

Brighton: There are no new injuries for the club coming into this game.

Liverpool: James Milner is 50/50 as he missed the Aston Villa game with a slight muscle injury but could play here. Dejan Lovren will be assessed after a knock.

Brighton vs Liverpool Head to Head:

Earlier in the season in the reverse fixture Liverpool won 2-1.

Liverpool have won the last 7 meetings in a row.

Last season this fixture ended 1-0 to Liverpool.

Brighton vs Liverpool Prediction:

Brighton will have their chances on goal and it is clear that Liverpool won’t be playing full throttle at 100%. However Brighton may well come into this game knowing that they are basically safe and will still have another four games to play after this one, and so a few more easier games to get the 3 points which would make them feel more secure.

With all due respect to both teams we may see a game that represents an exhibition, and that is why we don't expect to see a high scoring game. Liverpool should be able to ease to victory, but whether they choose to is the tricky element to this game, so minimum stakes.
