Brighton vs Crystal Palace: Preview and Prediction

England Premier League
Saturday 29th February 2020
Kick off at 12:30pm GMT
Venue: Amex Stadium

Match Preview:

Brighton would have been delighted at getting a 1-1 draw away to Sheffield United last weekend and they will want to keep up their stubborn approach when they take on Crystal Palace in the Saturday lunch time game.

Graham Potter’s team have drawn their last 3 games and are earning the points bit by bit, but even though they are in 15th place they are far from safe and are only four points from the bottom three.

Brighton have not won a game since the Christmas period and at home almost 50% of their games have finished in draws, which is apt given that their last 3 games here have also finished all square. The feeling is that they are good enough to stay up this season but not picking up three points for this long really could come back to haunt them.

Crystal Palace got a big win last weekend at home when they beat Newcastle 1-0 to move onto 33 points and whilst they are not out of the woods, they do have some breathing space. That win also ended a run of 3 straight defeats and should have installed some much needed confidence in the side.

They are 9 points clear of the bottom three and it looks certain that Roy Hodgson’s team will be safe this year. Palace have won just 3 games on the road this season with their last game ending in a 3-1 defeat against Everton.

Team News:

Brighton: No new injuries coming into this game for the club.

Crystal Palace: Chiekhou Kouyate has a knock but it is thought to be minor and he could be assessed.

Brighton vs Crystal Palace Prediction:

The two teams are very equal but just how long will Brighton go without winning a game? We think Brighton are rightly favourites for this game, they can be a very difficult team to beat at Amex Stadium. However we don't see much value in their odds to win considering they have only managed 6 wins all season and none in 2020. Therefore we will back Crystal Palace on the double chance as a draw is a likely outcome here. Palace were deserved winners last time out against Newcastle, and maybe that will give them the self belief to get some points from this tricky away game. Also, although these two teams aren't big goal scorers, there is a history of goals when these teams meet, so there is value to be found for backing a few goals.
