Bournemouth vs Chelsea: Preview and Prediction

England Premier League
Saturday 29th February 2020
Kick off at 3pm GMT
Venue: Vitality Stadium

Match Preview:

Bournemouth will aim to do the double over Chelsea when the two teams meet at the weekend. Eddie Howe’s side have already travelled to Stamford Bridge and won 1-0, can they do it again?

The home side are in 16th place and just two points from the bottom three. With recent wins over Brighton and Aston Villa it looked like the club were heading in the right direction but they have lost their last two games against Sheffield United and then Burnley to undo all of that hard work.

It may sound cliché but three points is so huge right now for any of the bottom five clubs who all lost their latest games. The good news for the club is that they have won their last two games at home, so if they continue to at least win at home they have every chance of staying up.

It was a good week and a terrible week for Chelsea, who started it by beating a top 4 rival in Tottenham but were then humbled 3-0 to Bayern Munich in the Champions League. Against Tottenham Chelsea did the league double over them, winning 2-1 and re establishing their 4th place, moving to 44 points in the process and four points clear of Spurs. That was all very good and well but Chelsea learned a few lessons in midweek in the Champions League and they look like they will exit the competition at the round of 16 after such a defeat to the German giants.

The Blues overall away form is good with 7 wins from 13 games but their recent away form is questionable where they have gone their last 3 games without a win, though two of those were draws. Their last away game ended in a 2-2 draw at Leicester.

Team News:

Bournemouth: Jefferson Lerma is being tipped to return for this game after a recent back injury.

Chelsea: Callum Hudson-Odoi is being pencilled in to return for this game but will face a late test and is a doubt for now. N’Golo Kante has a muscle injury and will miss at least the next 2 weeks.

Bournemouth vs Chelsea Prediction:

Bournemouth’s form is not good but it has become stable at home and they have enjoyed recent success over Chelsea. As for Chelsea they had to play an extra game in midweek, though at least they were at home. The defeat has been talked down by Frank Lampard as a learning process and if the players take those wise words on board they can come here and put in a decent performance. The classic set up would be to defend in the first half and play cautious and try to get Bournemouth to play at their pace and then hit him in the second half and that is why we are also looking at more goals being scored in the 2nd half. Chelsea have reached the stage where they need to be consistently winning games so they get another chance to play in the Champions League next season.
