Aston Villa vs Leicester: Preview and Prediction

England Premier League
Sunday 21st February 2021
Kick off at 2:05pm GMT
Venue: Villa Park

Match Preview:

Aston Villa should still be considered as one of the dark horses for a top 4 place as the club have 2 games in hand over most of their rivals coming into this weekend and are just six points behind that target.

Form has been mixed for the club when asked questions and they have certainly blown hot and cold over the course of this season. However, given that the club were almost relegated last season most fans would surely take everything that Villa have earned this season, even if they fail for Europe.

Dean Smith’s side could only draw in a game against Brighton 0-0 last weekend but the week before they beat Arsenal at home. However Villa have actually earned 4 points more away from home. At Villa Park they have won 50% of their games but also lost 4 with just one draw.

Leicester are in 3rd place and have remained rather excellent throughout their campaign as they try to make amends for last season and missing out on the Champions League in the final weeks of the campaign. The Foxes have the same points as 2nd placed Manchester United and this would be another huge win for the club if they can pull it off.

Brendan Rodgers side have lost once in their last five games but have dropped some points as draws are creeping up on them. However last weekend the Foxes were at their best as they beat the champions Liverpool 3-1, this after trailing the game. As a result Leicester have moved six points clear of Liverpool. However another league title looks distant as they are 10 points behind league leaders Manchester City.

Team News:

Aston Villa: Matthew Cash is out for 3-4 weeks with a hamstring injury. Kortney Hause won’t be back for at least four weeks with a foot injury.

Leicester: Ayoze Perez is out for at least two weeks with a knee injury. Timothy Castagne could come back from a hamstring injury and will be assessed. Wesley Fofana is out for a couple of weeks more.

Aston Villa vs Leicester Head to Head:

Last season Leicester won this fixture 4-1.

Leicester have scored 8 goals past Aston Villa in the last two league meetings.

Earlier in the season in the reverse fixture Aston Villa won 1-0.

Aston Villa vs Leicester Prediction:

This is a clash between two sides who have both punched above their weight this season and can surprise any opposition in the league.

We will back Leicester to win (but with the draw covered) as they are looking quite fearless at this moment and will have such a buzz in just beating Liverpool. They will have to be cautious at times and of course have already lost to Villa this season. For Villa they will be under some pressure to maintain a winning run because it only takes two bad games to slip out of contention for a top 4 spot.

Jamie Vardy has a good record over Villa and we will back the striker to add to his tally at the weekend.
