Arsenal vs Burnley: Preview and Prediction

England Premier League
Saturday 17th August 2019
Kick off at 12.30pm BST
Venue: Emirates Stadium

Match Preview:

Arsenal were not brilliant on the opening day of the season but going to Newcastle and coming away with a win was a very good result for the Gunners who lost their first two matches of last season under Unai Emery. Getting all three points on the board was the main objective and the club will come into this game with some confidence and playing their first match at home will easily be the favourites to win this game.

Pierre Emerick-Aubameyang scored 22 goals last season meaning that he finished joint top scorer and it was his goal that settled the tie up in Newcastle, the fact that he is already off the mark could point to him scoring again this weekend. Highly rated forward Nicolas Pepe could start the game after coming on from the bench last weekend.

Burnley beat Southampton 3-0 in a fairly routine win with Ashley Barnes grabbing a brace. It means that the club can come to the Emirates in a confident mood but the reality of the situation is that they will know this will be a very tough ask for them to get anything from this game. Especially considering Burnley's track record against Arsenal is very poor, not taking a single point off them since 2009, and that was with home advantage in their favour.

Depending on other results this weekend, either team could go top of the league with a win.

Team News:

Arsenal: Mesut Ozil and Saed Kolasinac are expected to return to first team football. There are long term injuries to Hector Bellerin and Kieran Tierney

Burnley: Robert Brady is the only doubt for the club after suffering a rib injury. He missed the opening day of the season and then was pencilled in to make this game but that is touch and go now and it wouldn’t be a surprise if he misses this match also

Arsenal vs Burnley Head to Head:

Arsenal have won the last 10 fixtures in a row.

Burnley have not beaten Arsenal since 2008 and when they did they were at home.

Arsenal have won the last two meetings by the same score line of 3-1.

Arsenal have scored 11 goals in the last 3 meetings v Burnley.

Arsenal vs Burnley Prediction:

It really would be a shock to see Burnley get anything here and the set up seems to be one that will be predictable. Arsenal will be in possession of the ball for long periods and Burnley will simply get men behind the ball and defend for long periods, hoping to frustrate their opponents and score on the break. We see this game being dominated by the Gunners and their hard work paying off.

Unai Emery’s team are 1.30 to win this game so one bet we will take on is for them to be winning at half time. This being the first match at home, the atmosphere will be electric against a technically inferior team and we just believe that there will be wave after wave of attacks from the home side. Aubameyang has scored 4 goals in his last 2 games against Burnley and looks nailed on to get another here and watch out for Pepe if he does start the game.

Arsenal vs Burnley Betting Tips:

Arsenal to be leading at half time at 1.80

Anytime goalscorer: Nicolas Pepe at 2.50

Anytime goalscorer: Pierre Emerick-Aubameyang at 1.66
