Arsenal vs Aston Villa: Preview and Prediction

Match Preview:

Some weeks Arsenal are looking like shrugging off the ghosts of the past few years and moving on with Mikel Arteta in charge. And yet in others it feels like the same old Arsenal, the one that simply can’t find enough consistency to make a run for the title or even a top 4 finish.

The Gunners finished 8th last season and they come into this game in 9th. Of course it is so early in the league campaign but the signs do not look very promising. Arsenal have lost 3 of their last 5 games and even though they have had some tough fixtures it still tells us that could be having a season where they may have to settle for a finish that sees them playing Europa League football once more.

As for the Europa League the Gunners played in midweek where they beat Molde 4-1 and they will have no problems navigating themselves out of their group. Last weekend in the league they pulled off a rare victory at Old Trafford beating Manchester United 1-0 through a Pierre- Emerick Aubameyang penalty. A decade ago that would have been a big scalp but with Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s job under threat it doesn’t seem like an amazing result although keeping a clean sheet is always going to be a positive outcome.

At home the Gunners have won two and lost one and that defeat came in their last game here as they were beaten by Leicester 1-0 despite having the majority of the chances.

Aston Villa will be questioned here after their superb start seems to have fizzled out. They come into this game having lost back to back encounters and have slipped to 8th place and this will not be an easy fixture for the club. What is worrying in that their two recent losses which happened against Leeds and Southampton saw the club ship 7 goals.

Team News:

Arsenal: Calum Chambers has recovered from injury but has a lack of match fitness and is set to miss this game. Reiss Nelson has a knock though it is thought to be minor.

Aston Villa: Bertrand Traore is ruled out with a thigh injury, he is the only injury doubt for Dean Smith’s side.

Arsenal vs Aston Villa Head to Head:

Last season Arsenal won this fixture 3-2.

Aston Villa have not won in London since 2013.

There is a 70% chance to see over 2.5 goals.

Arsenal vs Aston Villa Prediction:

Aston Villa will have to put in a strong performance to get anything here and there is going to be serious question marks after their last two results if they will be able too. They do have the advantage of not having played in midweek so as this game goes on Arsenal could get more fatigued, if it is still 0-0 Villa have their best chance like Leicester to pounce near the end. Villa have to recapture their attacking style and mojo but at this stadium that won’t be easy to do.

In truth we can only see a home victory but that doesn’t mean that Villa have to suffer by a large score. Though at the same time with the attacking flair that Arsenal have in their ranks that could well be possible. The Gunners are a decent price to win this game and we believe that they will despite some of their set backs, Villa could be heading into a bad patch of form.
