West Ham vs Tottenham: Preview & Prediction

England Premier League
Tuesday 2nd April 2024
Kick off at 8:15pm BST
Venue: London Stadium

Match Preview:

The atmosphere at London Stadium will be electric for the visit of Tottenham given that there is a huge rivalry between the sides. West Ham were unlucky not to beat Newcastle at the weekend as they were leading 3-1 and yet ended up losing 4-3. This has dented the Hammers plans for European competition next season with Newcastle, Brighton, Wolves and Chelsea breathing down their necks. Whatever happens the Hammers who are in seventh place cannot move up as Manchester United are four points clear of them. Recent form for the home side has been decent and the loss to Newcastle was their first in four games. At home West Ham’s latest game finished in a 1-1 draw with Aston Villa and they have managed to go unbeaten at home for the past 3 games although they have now drawn their last two in a row.

Tottenham came back from behind to beat Luton 2-1 last weekend and they are just three points behind 4th placed Aston Villa. Tottenham have won 3 of their last four games and while that looks good the club have continued to suffer from inconsistencies that have hampered their season- let’s remember 3 months ago they were being tipped to challenge for the league title but have fallen 11 points behind the league leaders Liverpool since then. Even though Tottenham’s majority result away from home is the win with 6 so far they have just 1 win from their past five games which came against Aston Villa but recently their away form has really suffered, their last away game ended in a 3-0 loss against Fulham.

Team News:

West Ham: Edson Alvarez is suspended, Alphonse Areola has a knock and will be assessed.

Tottenham: There are no new injuries for the club and the players who are sidelined are all long term which includes Manor Soloman, Fraser Forster and Ryan Sessegnon.

West Ham vs Tottenham Head to Head:

Last season this fixture finished 1-1.

Earlier in the season in the reverse fixture West Ham won 2-1.

It’s been four games going back almost five years since Tottenham beat West Ham away from home.

There is a 70% chance to see both teams to score.

West Ham vs Tottenham Prediction:

Normally Tottenham have had the better team than West Ham and the Hammers have been more in their shadow but that’s questionable this season even if Tottenham will finish the higher of the two- West Ham raise themselves to the occasion and if they can get a foothold on the game then we have to expect that David Moyes side will make this a difficult game for the away side. West Ham’s consistency hasn’t always been at its very best but neither has Tottenham who have been by and large suffering on the road lately. The problem with backing against Tottenham is that they remain typically Tottenham and you do not know what they will and can pull out the bag. One market we are going to tick off is both teams to score and we do expect goals in this game. One question mark against West Ham is what did the Newcastle loss and the way it happened take out of them? Expect fireworks and goals.
