West Ham vs Burnley: Preview & Prediction

England Premier League
Sunday 10th March 2024
Kick off at 2pm GMT
Venue: London Stadium

Match Preview:

West Ham lost in Europe in mid week as they went down to 1-0 to German side Freiburg in their 1st leg knockout game but in the Premier League David Moyes side have turned a bad patch round and have won their last two games. Not only have the wins came against Brentford and Everton but so has the goals- seven in two games is nothing to be sniffed at and the club came into this weekend in 7th place and have 42 points. This year so far has still been a disappointing one for the Hammers but there can be hope now that form is picking up and the club will be expected to win this fixture with ease.

At home West Ham have won 6 games and lost three and recent form has seen just one defeat in their last five but draws have been a problem. The club will be aware that their position is far from safe too and the likes of Newcastle, Brighton and Wolves are close by.

Burnley like Sheffield United look down- both clubs have 13 points coming into this weekend and Vincent Kompany’s side are a cool 12 points from safety when taking in goal difference. The Clarets have lost 4 games in a row with their latest one coming at home in a 2-0 defeat by Bournemouth. Away from home Burnley has the second to worst record with just two wins and have been beaten 9 times, their last win on the road came just before Christmas and they are conceding 2 goals per game.

Team News:

West Ham: Nayef Aguerd will be assessed due to a knock but is being tipped to be fine. Maxwell Cornet has been ruled out for between 2-3 weeks with a hamstring injury

Burnley: Jordan Beyer remains a doubt with a knock, Lyle Foster, Nathan Redmond and Aaron Ramsey are all out long term and they all look set to miss the rest of the season

West Ham vs Burnley Head to Head:

Last season this fixture finished 1-1.

Earlier in the season in the reverse fixture West Ham won 1-1.

Burnley have not beaten West Ham for almost 4 years.

3 of the last four meetings has witnessed both teams to score.

West Ham vs Burnley Prediction:

West Ham have to be considered a great price to win this game and they can be backed at 1.66 to do so. Burnley have been poor this season but recent form hasn’t shown us that they can turn the poor form around. Perhaps in another season we could have seen the Hammers around 1.44 to win this so a straight home win should be taken on. It is true that teams like Burnley have been a banana skin for the Hammers in the past and while Moyes' side are not utterly brilliant they have gone up levels since he has taken charge even if many fans still want him out of a job. Most of the fans' grievances seem to be around the fact that their side may win a game but play negative football, but a win is a win and we expect the Hammers to get the job done here.

Burnley have struggled to beat West Ham in recent games but have kept the scores low and close and both teams to score has a very good return and should be taken on. This has the potential to be a free flowing and entertaining game, Burnley have nothing to lose and need to go for it, but the Hammers have some wonderful players in attack and at home it will be difficult not to see Burnley implode and lose yet another game.

West Ham vs Burnley Betting Tips:

West Ham to beat Burnley at 1.66

Anytime goalscorer: Jarrod Bowen at 2.10
