Tottenham vs Luton: Preview & Prediction

Match Preview:

There’s just those slight inconsistencies with Tottenham which seem to be eating at them and may well scupper their top four chances in the end. It was only a few weeks ago that they smashed a top 4 rival in Aston Villa away from home winning 4-0 and then came crashing back down from that to lose against Fulham just before the break. It means that the side come into this game 3 points behind Aston Villa in 4th but the worry may well come from sixth placed Manchester United who are trailing Spurs by 6 points, things can change very quickly in football and any dropped points here would simply not be good enough.

Tottenham will rightly start as the odds on favourites and they have won 10 of their 14 games at home so far. However with no draws yet here they have also lost four times. Recent form at home has seen 4 wins from their last five games although they did go down 2-1 against Wolves here last month. Luton received a boost and moved out of the bottom three when Nottingham Forest were handed a 4 point penalty for FFP charges. But this looks like a very tough fixture for them and they could well be back in amongst the danger zone as they only hold a 1 point advantage over Forest. A surprise win would actually keep Luton in the same place but they could move four points clear of the relegation zone so there is plenty to play for. Luton’s form is patchy and while the club have fought well recently they still have three defeats from their last five games but they have recorded a couple of draws against Crystal Palace and Nottingham Forest. Earlier this month they imploded against Bournemouth though when they found themselves 3-0 up at half time only to lose the match 4-3, one would have to think that Rob Edwards side are going to regret these types of results come the season end. Away from home has seen 8 defeats from 14 games and just two wins resulting in 10 points won from a possible 42.

Gabriel Osho was expected back but is still missing from a knee injury, he may return next week but this has not been confirmed. Tottenham vs Luton Prediction:

Tottenham are 1.20 to win this game and while we think they should sail through we are guessing that we won’t see too many takers on that price. However, backing the ht/ft market could be the way to go. Tottenham have such a pacy attacking front line and we think that they will cause Luton a lot of problems. You have to admire Luton because they haven’t given up the fight and have surprised many clubs this season even in defeat because ultimately other clubs know that they have been in a battle with them and they will have their chances for sure in this game. However Tottenham can score goals at home and we wouldn’t be surprised if they found 3 or more, and the goals market and players market is going to be how we will be looking into this game, there is some good value to be found. If we look at a player like James Maddison he had some decent games with England recently and is back fully in the Tottenham squad after his injury, he looks confident and is a great price alongside the expected scorers to get on the score sheet.
