Match Preview:
With 16 points heading into this game it is fair to say that Sheffield United will be one of the teams to go down this season. With goal difference they are 11 points from safety and now their season comes down to finishing with some pride. They certainly showed that in their last home game by surprising Chelsea with a 2-2 draw but recent form has only seen 3 points won from their last 15 on offer. Last weekend the Blades lost their 22nd game of the season as they went down 2-0 against Brentford. So what would be the targets here- well for one they would close the gap to 19th placed Burnley to just one point and would give themselves a chance to not finish bottom of the table. At home Chris Wilder’s side has the worst record in the league which shouldn’t come as a surprise with 10 points won from a possible 48 and just two wins so far. However they have managed to draw their last two games at home.
Burnley have some hope, not much but some. It’s just one defeat from their past five which came away at Everton and 6 points have been won from their last 15 on offer, it isn’t great but could these points be valuable at the end of the season? In Burnley’s last game they were able to draw 1-1 against Brighton but away form has not been too encouraging with 3 defeats from their past five although they have recently managed draws on the road against West Ham and Burnley which has to be seen as impressive.
Team News:
Sheffield United: Jayden Bogle and Tom Davies could be assessed for fitness issues after recovering from injury. Jack Robinson is nearing a return from an ankle injury and may also be assessed. The Blades have plenty of players out long term though which includes, Max Lowe, Rhys Norrington-Davies, John Egan, Rhian Brewster, George Baldock and Chris Basham
Burnley: The Clarets have no new injuries coming into this game but like their opponents have quite a few long term injuries which include, Aaron Ramsey, Jordan Beyer, Nathan Redmond and Ameen Al Dakhil
Sheffield Utd vs Burnley Head to Head:
The clubs last played this fixture in 2022 in the Championship and it was good news for Sheffield United as they ran out 5-2 winners.
However earlier in the season in the reverse fixture Burnley got payback and won 5-0.
This fixture has seen 14 goals in the previous 3 meetings.
Burnley haven’t won here since 2008.
Sheffield Utd vs Burnley Prediction:
Let’s be honest a few weeks ago this game would have had more of a buzz around it, the moment when Nottingham Forest had points deducted from them all of a sudden for a brief moment it felt like these clubs had a glimmer of a chance of survival especially Burnley. However Burnley are hanging by a thread and Sheffield United would probably go down even if they ended up winning their last six games in a row. And so the interest lies more with the away side, if they can pull off a win and Nottingham Forest were to lose the next day there would only be 3 points in it.
Burnley have a poor record here and we have two sides that have obviously failed to shine in the league. The Blades will show courage and pride and we think they could put the final nail in what has been a pretty miserable season for Burnley, expect a close game though.
