Nottm Forest vs Crystal Palace: Preview & Prediction

England Premier League
Saturday 30th March 2024
Kick off at 3pm GMT
Venue: City Ground

Match Preview:

For Nottingham Forest the reference point has to be Everton given that the two clubs have something in common, FFP charges. When Everton were given a 10 point penalty form picked up and the club really came together to win games and try and make those lost points up as quickly as possible, one would believe that Forest will adopt that mindset. The club's first test since the charge is taking on Crystal Palace and with them being at home there will be a sense that a win could be on the cards.

With the charge Forest are in the bottom three however could well escape that with a win here depending on how Luton get on. Despite the charge Forest are just 1 point from safety and they have also appealed. On the pitch the club have not won for six weeks when they beat West Ham and since then they have suffered 3 defeats in a row although ended that just before the break with a 1-1 draw away to their relegation rivals Luton.

Crystal Palace are in 14th place and with 29 points they are looking like surviving this season but are clearly not out of the woods. Since new manager Oliver Glasner replaced Roy Hodgson he has picked up all the results; a comfortable win over Burnley, a 3-1 loss away to Tottenham and a 1-1 draw at home to Luton which may be telling. Glasner needs to get his stride going because if observers see that his record is similar to Hodgson’s then one would have to wonder why is he in the job? At the same time he deserves just that, time and he should have enough tools in the bag to see Palace safe within the next 3-4 games.

Team News:

Gonzalo Montiel looks set to miss out again with his hamstring injury and Taiwo Awoniyi is out with a muscle injury with no fixed return date

Crystal Palace: The Eagles have no new injuries however have a host of players out- many of whom may well end up missing the rest of the season this includes, Chieck Doucoure, Rob Holding, Sam Johnstone, Marc Guehi, Matheus Franca, Jesurun Rak-Sakyi and Michael Olise

Nottm Forest vs Crystal Palace Head to Head:

Last season Nottingham Forest won this fixture 1-0.

Earlier in the season in the reverse fixture the game finished 0-0.

Crystal Palace have gone the last 6 games without a win against Forest going back to 2011.

The last 3 meetings have all witnessed under 2.5 goals.

Nottm Forest vs Crystal Palace Prediction:

Recent fixtures have not seen many goals and we wouldn’t be surprised if this is how this game pans out. Forest need to be aggressive for the win at home but also strike up a fine balance to be patient and calm. Crystal Palace do not look too convincing on the road and with Forest having a decent recent record over the Eagles we will swoop in and go for the home win.

As mentioned above Forest will and should come into this game like they have been wronged even if they haven’t, it’s an us against the rest of the world mentality and with a good atmosphere at home Forest has a really good chance to seize this moment, they are very good value and we will be taking the home side on for a narrow win.
