Aston Villa vs Wolves: Preview & Prediction

England Premier League
Saturday 30th March 2024
Kick off at 5:30pm GMT
Venue: Villa Park

Match Preview:

Aston Villa will be looking to get back to winning ways as they come into this game having lost to Tottenham and then earning a draw away to West Ham. Villa are still in a good position and not many could have predicted that they would be in 4th place as we head into April. They have a 3 point advantage over Tottenham but are seven points behind 3rd placed Manchester City and have played a game more. It really does come down to whether Unai Emery’s side can finish in 4th this season?

Villa’s form up until their stumble had been encouraging with three wins in a row but some of that fear factor of how brilliant they were at home has dissipated since and they have lost three times now at Villa Park. This includes losing 3 of their last four games here and after going unbeaten at home between August and January that comes as quite a shock. The good news though is that Villa are made of tough stuff and have already bounced back from their lows.

Wolves are chasing a European place and this just underlines what a fantastic job Gary O’Neil is doing at the club. They come into this weekend in 9th place and have 41 points and recent form has been solid with 3 wins from their last four games which have come against Tottenham, Sheffield United and Fulham. On the road while the club has managed to win 5 games they have also lost 7 including their latest away game against Newcastle but that defeat came on the back of going four games undefeated away from home and Wolves have to be up there as one of the most impressive sides in the league pound for pound this season.

Team News:

Aston Villa: Matthew Cash will be assessed due to a hamstring injury, Jacob Ramsey is only 50/50 to return from a foot injury. John McGinn is suspended and not due back until next week. Boubacar Kamara and Tyrone Mings are out for the season

Wolves: Craig Dawson and Matheus Cunha both have a good chance to return and will be assessed for minor injuries. Jean-Ricner Bellegarde could just miss out here but if so should be able to return next week. Hwang Hee-Chan is missing for at least 3 more weeks due to a hamstring injury. Pedro Neto is not expected back until May at the earliest as he has a hamstring injury

Aston Villa vs Wolves Prediction:

This game is more even that meets the eye and we shouldn’t be fooled that 4th place is taking on 9th. We have all seen how impressive Wolves have been, especially in the past three months. Aston Villa do not have that dominance that they held at home in this campaign and we expect a closely fought game and an even struggle. Of interest it is worth noting that Villa have struggled in recent years to get a win when at home against Wolves in the league, it was just one win in their past five home games and that came back in 2018.

This is a game that really could go either way but there just seems to be a problem for Villa at home recently when they face sides as good as them and teams that can play with the high line and counter, Wolves are a very good price to pull off an away victory and it could be worth investing for them with a safe handicap.
