Match Preview:
This is the biggest game of Aston Villa’s season so far as Villa in 4th place take on Tottenham in 5th. Villa have 55 points and are 5 clear of Tottenham although the visitors have a game in hand and would be right back in the driving seat for the final Champions League place if they came here and won.
Aston Villa’s form coming into this game has been solid with 4 wins from their last 5 and that includes 3 wins in a row, last weekend they were able to hold off a comeback as they beat Luton 3-2. At home they have won 10 from 13 games and although recent home form has witnessed their first defeats of the season here they will be hoping that their last game here which was a victory over Nottingham Forest has set them up to go on a long home unbeaten streak again. With 35 goals scored at home their attack ranks in 2nd place for home sides and only Liverpool with 37 goals have scored more.
Tottenham could go 8 points behind Aston Villa if they lose this game and may also have Manchester United to contend with. Form has been patchy for Tottenham with 7 points won from their last 12, that may not sound the worst form ever but this is the business end of the season and one would have thought the club would have found good consistency at this stage. But points have been dropped against Everton and Wolves lately. There was a good pick me up last weekend as they beat Crystal Palace 3-1 at home. Away from home Tottenham would rank in 6th place although recent form has seen just one defeat which was against Brighton they have drawn 3 of their last five.
Team News:
Aston Villa: Jacob Ramsey will be assessed for a foot injury. Jhon Duran has a lack of match fitness and will also be assessed. Boubacar Kamara, Tyrone Mings and Emiliano Buendia are all ruled out for the season.
Tottenham: Richarlison is out with a knee injury and isn’t expected back for 2-3 weeks. Fraser Forster has a foot injury that looks like keeping him out for a month. Manor Soloman and Ryan Sessegnon are out long term with no fixed return date.

Tottenham have been too inconsistent since November and we can’t see them recapturing their early season form. For Aston Villa this is a huge game and they need to be ready and focused just like they were earlier in the season when they were able to manage positive results here against Manchester City and Arsenal, that version of Villa makes them unbeatable in this game. This is a huge stepping stone for Unai Emery’s side and the experienced Spanaird will understand this, this is the game that could well define their season and push them onto a top four finish.
Tottenham come with experience but the recent injury of Richarlison is a blow, himself and Son upfront have not been able to form a solid partnership through a spate of injuries and then Son had to leave in January for the Asian Games, this all has an effect. Villa are a good price to win the game and there will be a feeling that Tottenham have enough in the end to take that 4th place from Emery’s side, but we will back Villa to continue their excellent recent run over Tottenham, there is really good value all over this game. Get on Douglas Luiz at very good odds to score in this game, he has managed to score in 2 of the last 3 games when Villa have played Tottenham.
