West Ham vs Aston Villa: Preview and Prediction

England Premier League
Sunday 26th July 2020
Kick off at 4pm BST
Venue: London Stadium

Match Preview:

A few weeks ago this game was being touted as a do or die match between the two clubs who were struggling in relegation. It would have made for great TV of course who ever lost would have been relegated, but West Ham’s form picked up largely because they had a better run in of games than either Aston Villa and Bournemouth and the rest was history.

There is no denying that even though they escaped relegation, West Ham under David Moyes have been poor this season other than the last 5 or 6 games when they have really shown a bit of fight. They do still have the opportunity to end it on a high with a win at home against Villa.

Aston Villa have been very poor and naive and this season, it just hasn’t worked out for the players and manager Dean Smith. Their away form is very poor where they have only won a couple of games this season they have the joint 2nd worst away record in the league.

This match will determine whether they remain in the Premier League. Only a win would guarantee safety, if they draw or lose then their fate lies in the results of Watford and Bournemouth.

Team News:

West Ham: Bowen, Cresswell, and Snodgrass are all doubts for this game.

Aston Villa: Ahmed Elmohamady picked up a thigh injury in their win over Arsenal and will miss this game.

West Ham vs Aston Villa Head to Head:

In the reverse fixture earlier in the season this game finished 0-0.

The teams have not played at West Ham since 2016 which was at their old stadium where the Hammers won 2-0.

Aston Villa have not beaten West Ham away from home since 2011.

There is an 80% chance to see under 2.5 goals.

6 games from the past 8 have had the correct score at half time as 0-0.

West Ham vs Aston Villa Prediction:

We are backing West Ham to get at least a draw in this game, they are very good value odds considering the home advantage and their strong recent form. We also think this game has goals in it, so backing over 2.5 goals could be the way to go. Michail Antonio has really found his scoring boots for the Hammers since the restart and he is worth backing to get a goal here too.

West Ham vs Aston Villa Betting Tips:

Asian handicap (+0.5 West Ham) at 1.65

Anytime goalscorer: Michail Antonio at 2.87

Total goals (Over 2.5) at 1.66
