Man Utd vs Burnley: Preview & Prediction

England Premier League
Saturday 27th April 2024
Kick off at 3pm BST
Venue: Old Trafford

Match Preview:

In midweek Manchester United faced the team in 20th place at home and now they face the team in 19th place. One could presume this would be an easy 6 points for the club but already we have seen a scare. United at times struggled and fell behind twice against Sheffield United before battling through to beat them 4-2 but even in victory it has left observers shaking their heads. Had the Blades possessed a bit more quality United may have lost that game and everyone in the club understands that. Still the club has taken pole position to finish in a European place and have marched 3 points in front of Newcastle. United have also gone their last 3 games unbeaten although have only won once in their last five games picking up just 6 points in that time. The majority result at home is at least the win with 9 so far and it’s been 2 months since they last lost here which came against Fulham.

Burnley are in 19th place but this weekend gives them an opportunity to move past Luton and into 18th. In their last game they were able to thrash bottom club Sheffield United 4-1 and they have a chance to stay up this season as they eye trying to put Nottingham Forest under pressure. The Clarets are picking up the points and have only lost once in their last five games though the majority of their recent results have ended in draws. Away from home has seen 10 defeats from 17 games but they have lost just once in their last four away trips.

Team News:

Manchester United: Jonny Evans, Victor Lindelof, Tyrell Malacia and Anthony Martial are all sidelined. Mason Mount will be assessed for a knock as will Marcus Rashford but it is thought that Rashford could miss out and is only 50/50 to make this game. Willy Kambwala is 50/50 and will be assessed due to a knock. Luke Shaw and Rapahel Varane are both missing for the next two weeks at least as they face a race against time to play again this season

Burnley: There are no new injuries for the club but long term ones and the following players are all ruled out for the season; Aaron Ramsey, Nathan Redmond, Jordan Beyer, Ameen Al Dakhil

Man Utd vs Burnley Head to Head:

It’s been 7 games since Burnley managed to beat Manchester United going back four years.

Earlier in the season in the reverse fixture Manchester United won 1-0.

3 of the last five meetings has seen both teams to score.

Man Utd vs Burnley Prediction:

Burnley have impressed lately and certainly the side are drawing on their manager Vincent Kompany’s winning attitude as a player, they will come here and really give United a game and we expect them to be competitive. It’s an important weekend for the club because they could join Nottingham Forest on the same points as Forest have to play Manchester City and Burnley has a real chance of staying up.

Manchester United even in winning games do not look fully convincing and continue to make heavy weather of games. Perhaps Erik ten Hag’s position as manager is under threat in the summer and that could be a valid story. However the club has the quality and they are able to look down and out but can fight back and we would be really surprised if they didn’t win this game. United are odds on but have a great record over Burnley lately, are at home and their odds on price may be attractive for some, so we will take them on. This is a result that may well start to secure their participation in European football for next season too.
