Tottenham vs Newcastle: Preview and Prediction

England Premier League
Sunday 27th September 2020
Kick off at 2pm BST
Venue: Tottenham Hotspur Stadium

Match Preview:

The last time Tottenham played at home they were toothless and put in a poor display as they lost 1-0 to Everton. Questions were being asked of their new season, and then in the space of a few days everything changed for the club.

The arrival of Gareth Bale from Real Madrid on loan is huge for them, the Welshman has finally returned after seven successful years in Spain, and there is a buzz around the club now. There can be no coincidence that Bale’s return led to Tottenham winning their next game 5-2 against Southamton and yet of course Bale didn’t play. But that is football, the players knowing on the field that changes are happening, that there is ambition within the club can change moods very quickly.

Heung-Min Son scored 4 goals in that game, Harry Kane set up 4 goals and scored the 5th, it was magic from the club. They also won in the Europa League qualifying stages in midweek and again Son and Kane came to the rescue. They will play Maccabi Hafia at home in two weeks time, win that and they have qualified for the Europa League proper.

Newcastle started the season well by beating West Ham away from home, the club looked assured and confident. However the following week at home they lost 3-0 to Brighton, when they would have been expected to pick up something from that game.

There is some good news though and that was the 7-0 crushing of Morecombe in the Carabao Cup. True that the Magpies were expected to win the game with ease but at the same time they recorded their best ever away result. Goals no matter who it is against will have given the club a confidence shot ahead of this game.

Team News:

Tottenham: Gareth Bale arrived with a knee injury and he isn’t expected to play for between 10 days and two weeks although no confirmed date for his first game has been confirmed. New signing Sergio Reguilon has recovered from injury and is training but could miss this match due to a lack of match fitness, he is 50/50.

Newcastle: Ciaran Clarke picked up a thigh injury in the Carabao Cup and is unlikely to make this game. Jamal Lewis was kicked to the head hurting his eye in the last game, although medical checks have revealed no damage and Steve Bruce is hopeful the player will be involved in this match.

Tottenham vs Newcastle Head to Head:

Last season Newcastle won this fixture 1-0.

The last time the teams played a game was only in July up at Newcastle which Tottenham won 3-1.

There is a 60% chance to see both teams to score.

Harry Kane is on form and last time the clubs met he scored a brace against them.

Tottenham vs Newcastle Prediction:

There’s a lot of confidence around Tottenham at this time and the players seem united with Jose Mourinho. The only problem seems to be the case of Dele Alli who has fallen out of favour with Mourinho, having said that he could give Alli another chance in this game.

It is rare that a Mourinho led side would lose 2 home games in a row, but Newcastle have won in London this season already and this could be a close game and end to end football. Mourinho seems happy in this moment however, had Bale not arrived, had Southampton held onto a lead things could be very different in the Spurs camp, but we expect them to get a good win at the weekend.

However for value in backing the home side to win there isn’t much, they are priced up at around 1.44, which is why we will back them on a -1 asian handicap to increase the odds at no extra risk.

Tottenham vs Newcastle Betting Tips:

Asian handicap (-1 Tottenham) at 1.75

Anytime goalscorer: Harry Kane at 1.80
