Norwich vs Man City: Preview and Prediction

England Premier League
Saturday 14th September 2019
Kick off at 5:30pm BST
Venue: Carrow Road

Match Preview:

Carrow Road will be sure to be a sell out when the champions come to visit, but beneath all of the excitement that Pep Guardiola and his stars will be visiting will be a real worry about where Norwich are right now.

The Canaries have actually played some good football but have still lost 3 of their four opening games and this will be an incredibly tough match to get anything from.

They have only played two games at home with a victory over Newcastle and then a loss to Chelsea, although that game only ended 3-2 and could have finished in a draw. Just before the international break Norwich’s away form was exposed when West Ham eased to a 2-0 victory, and it is clear that if they are to stay up this season so much will be dependent on how they perform at home.

Manchester City are two points behind Liverpool and even though it is so early in the league stages they can’t afford to drop points. Unbeaten, their only blemish was the 2-2 result against Tottenham, City are looking the business again and have already scored 14 goals. They come here on the back of two wins in a row with victories over Bournemouth and Brighton.

City will be big odds on favourites to win and they are looking as ever so slick and brilliant going forward. It will take a mammoth of defensive duties from Norwich to stop the goals from flooding in.

Team News:

Norwich: Grant Hanley is close to a return and will be assessed. Onel Hernandez is a long term injury with his knee as is Timm Klose. Tom Trybull has an ankle injury and could miss a few months. Christoph Zimmerman could come back after his foot injury but remains 50/50

Manchester City: Ilkay Gundogan didn’t play in the internationals as he had an illness, but is expected to be fine for this match. Gabriel Jesus has recovered from injury and is set to be included in the squad. John Stones could return after his thigh injury. Aymeric Laporte has a knee injury and will miss a chunk of the season

Norwich vs Man City Head to Head:

The teams have not met since 2016 when this fixture ended 0-0.

Norwich have not beaten Manchester City since 2013.

40% of games in recent times have ended in over 5.5 goals.

Norwich vs Man City Prediction:

The one thing with Norwich is that they don’t go down without a fight. Even when they lost to Liverpool 4-1 they still showed a lot of courage and good play, but if we look at the fact they have played two traditionally good teams in Liverpool and Arsenal it can’t discount from the fact that they have conceded 7 goals. Now it’s Manchester City, and it’s hard not to see Guardiola’s team scoring a few.

Norwich are a proud team and will want to keep the score respectable and that is why we think they can frustrate City at home, and so one of our choices will be to see more goals in the 2nd half of the game. So many players are on fire for City though, that there could be a few goals in the offering.
