Match Preview:

Football throws up all sorts of fixtures for you, one moment it’s Real Madrid the next it’s Luton. These are games that all have to be won of course as Manchester City get to the nitty gritty of the football season. City played out another epic game in midweek in their first leg of the Champions League quarter finals and that match over Real Madrid finished 3-3 with the 2nd leg at home very much alive next week. For this weekend though attentions must turn to lowly Luton, any dropped points could be fatal given that City need to wrestle a title challenge not from one but two teams in Liverpool and Arsenal.

City are in 3rd place but only 1 point behind Arsenal and Liverpool. At this stage of the game draws are no good and to be fair if they want to try and become champions again you can’t be dropping points at home to Luton. City have been very good this season but there is a feeling that even in April they haven’t quite been in their zone. Perhaps the two draws in their last four games tells us a bit about that or how they seem to start most games in a slow and sluggish way. Still, City have won their last two games and are scoring goals again, 8 goals in those two wins as they thrashed Aston Villa and Crystal Palace 4-1 and 4-2 respectively. At home City is unbeaten- however 5 draws have anchored them but they still have an impressive 38 points from a possible 48.

Luton have been given yet another life line as Everton were deducted a further 2 points and the Hatters are just a win away from escaping the bottom three, however no one is going to give them a chance to pull that off this weekend. Form has improved but it’s still just 4 points from their last 12 although last weekend they were able to win their sixth game of the season as they beat Bournemouth 2-1 at home. However on the road it is 10 losses from 16 games and just two wins and that includes a losing streak of 3 games in a row. Their last away game ended in defeat to Arsenal although it only ended 2-0 in the end and that suggests that Luton will not make this game easy for the current champions.

Team News:

Manchester City: Phil Foden is a doubt with a knock and he will be assessed, Nathan Ake is out with a calf injury and Kyle Walker is out with his hamstring both are expected back in 10 days

Luton: Reece Burke will be assessed with a knock, Issa Kabore cannot play against his parent club. Teden Mengi is only 50/50 to make this game. The Hatters have many long term injuries including; Daniel Potts, AlbertSambi-Lokonga, Gabriel Osho, Marvelous Nakamba, Tom Lockyer, Jacob Brown, Amarii Bell and Mads Andersen

Man City vs Luton Head to Head:

The clubs have not played this fixture since 1999, and times were certainly very very different for both sides. As a matter of interest City won 2-0.

Earlier in the season in the reverse fixture City won 2-1.

The clubs have met this year, although it was at Luton’s ground in the FA Cup where City ran out 6-2 winners.

Man City vs Luton Prediction:

It’s incredible to think that Erling Haaland has been criticised of late- he is the leading goalscorer again in the Premier League, but his strike rate is not as great as perhaps it could be. This however is not in question, it has more to do with his movement and body language which at times looks non existent. We think Haaland may try to answer some critics in this game. No one after can say but it’s only against Luton as every match now for City is like a cup final, must win games. Arsenal and Liverpool have tests this weekend and this could be a great opportunity for City to take advantage in the title race again. Of course we believe they will win, but of course their price to do so is huge odds on, so we need to look into different markets.

Man City vs Luton Betting Tips:

1st Half Correct Score: 1-0 or 2-0 to Manchester City at 3.00 and 4.33

Erling Haaland to score 2+ goals at 3.25
