Leeds vs Brighton: Preview and Prediction

England Premier League
Saturday 16th January 2021
Kick off at 3pm GMT
Venue: Elland Road

Match Preview:

The last two games for Leeds have not been encouraging and being knocked out of the FA Cup at such an early stage was surely not on the agenda for the club. Having said that the objective this season will be about survival.

Leeds lost 3-0 against Tottenham away from home and whilst that wasn’t a good result we can be sure to believe that manager Marcelo Bielsa has well forgotten about that game and moved on to this one. Leeds are going to lose many games this season but play well enough to stay up, that is the idea anyway.

Leeds come into this game in 12th place with 23 points and they are well on course to survive this season. They will be happy to be back at home and where they have won their last 2 matches beating Newcastle and Burnley.

Brighton are in 17th place and just two points from the drop. They lost their last game at Manchester City, but it was a match that the players could hold up their heads high as they were only defeated 1-0.

Form isn’t great with no wins in their last five games however they have drawn 3 of those matches and away from home they have gone their last 4 games without a win.

Team News:

Leeds: Kalvin Phillips is suspended after picking up 5 yellow cards. Robin Koch is out long term with his knee.

Brighton: Steven Alzate has been missing for unknown reasons and could be a doubt for this game. Aaron Connelly looks set to miss out again with his hamstring. Adam Lallana is ill and Danny Welbeck has a knee injury.

Leeds vs Brighton Head to Head:

The clubs haven’t played each other since 2017 when Leeds won 2-0.

Brighton have won 6 of the last seven meetings against Leeds.

The last 3 meetings has only seen 1 team to score.

There hasn’t been a 0-0 result between the sides since 2008.

Leeds vs Brighton Prediction:

This is a game much like when Leeds played Burnley here a few weeks ago where the home side can get the win. Leeds remain unpredictable at the back and Brighton may find chances but Leeds should have enough being at home to get the win.

It’s slightly a bad patch from Leeds and lose this game and all of a sudden they have lost 3 games in a row so it is important that Bielsa can find a way to encourage his players to dominate the pace of this game and if they can do that they could score a couple of goals too.

Patrick Bamford is due a goal and he should be looked to to get back on form and do so at home. Leeds do not have a good record against Brighton but they did win the last match between the two teams.
