Aston Villa vs Leicester: Preview & Prediction

England Premier League
Sunday 5th December 2021
Kick off at 4:30pm GMT
Venue: Villa Park

Match Preview:

Aston Villa will be looking to bounce back from their midweek defeat at home to Manchester City and the good news is that they will stay at Villa Park for this game.

Villa had won their first two games under new manager Steven Gerrard but then came the visit of the champions and perhaps it was too much to ask to see three wins in a row. But Villa played some good football and even threatened a come back against Pep Guardiola’s side and there was no shame in the final score line.

Villa have 16 points and are in 13th place and right now there is that fine line between winning a game and losing one that could see them squeezing into the top 10 or dropping nearer the relegation zone.

Overall Villa have a decent home record however recent home form has not been good with 3 defeats in their last four. It’s hard to take too much notice of that record though as Gerrard has only just stepped into the job and the majority of those results were of course under Dean Smith.

Leicester are in 10th place and are 3 points ahead of their hosts. The Foxes drew 2-2 at Southampton in midweek and before that beat Watford 4-2, so they might be finding some much needed form. They are certainly finding goals and have six in their last two games and James Maddison is scoring again which is another boost for a club who by their recent seasons have started this campaign slowly.

Team News:

Aston Villa: Leon Bailey is out long term with a thigh injury, the club are hopeful that Danny Ings will return from a muscle injury but he is only 50/50 to do so. Matt Targett could return but he has had a head injury and will likely miss this game. Trezeguet could return next week because of a lack of match fitness. Bertrand Traore isn’t due back until Boxing Day with his ongoing thigh injury.

Leicester: Youri Tielemans has recovered from injury but has a lack of match fitness and is a major doubt. Ricardo Pereira isn’t due back until next week because of his hamstring injury, that is the same case for Justin James. Wesley Fofana could be back next month after his pre-season leg injury.

Aston Villa vs Leicester Head to Head:

Last season Leicester won this fixture 2-1.

There is a 70% chance to see both teams to score.

There hasn’t been a 0-0 between the sides since 2000.

Aston Villa vs Leicester Prediction:

Aston Villa have started life off with Steven Gerrard in charge in style winning their first two games. We shouldn’t concentrate too much on their defeat against the champions City and even then it was a close score.

Leicester still seem unbalanced one week they look like the team who have finished 5th twice in a row and another week they look like a mid table team. Villa will want to get back to playing again and it will be interesting to see how Gerrard’s team bounce back from tasting defeat under him.

This looks like an equal game, therefore we think goals could be the order of the day. Both clubs have been scoring and conceding of late so we expect both teams to score and over 2.5 goals to be likely.

Aston Villa vs Leicester Betting Tips:

Total goals (Over 2.5) at 1.90

Anytime goalscorer: Danny Ings at 2.50

Both teams to score at 1.66
