Arsenal vs Everton: Preview and Prediction

England Premier League

Kick off at 4.30pm GMT
Venue: Emirates Stadium

Match Preview:

Arsenal have been living on the edge this season and yet a couple of wins can put them back into the mix to chase a European finish. Yet if they were to lose here and some other teams around them were to win suddenly they would see a gap finally forming, so this is a very big game for them.

The Gunners will take confidence in their last two games, which saw them beat Newcastle here 4-0 and then travel to Greece and beat Olympiakos in the Europa League 1-0.

Arsenal by their usual standards have been poor this season and when can you remember them being in 10th place in February? However they are not losing games even if they are drawing too many and that could be a key difference for the club having a decent end to their season.

This is such a key game for Everton who usually do not travel well away to Arsenal but can make some space between the teams with a win. They are in 9th place and two points above Arsenal so there is so much to gain with a win and so much to lose with a defeat.

Both clubs are unbeaten in their last five games but between them they have drawn 6 of their 10 games.

Everton have won their last 2 games beating Crystal Palace and Watford and they are scoring goals, with 3 scored in each of those games. Away from home they have lost 7 from 13 games and have 1 win in their last 3 trips.

Team News:

Arsenal: The club have no new injuries coming into this match but Lucas Torreira has an illness which ruled him out of the Europa League match and it remains to be seen if the midfielder will be ready for this game.

Everton: The only concern for Everton is Theo Walcott who could miss the game due to his knee injury. Andre Gomes is set to make his return from the club after his horrific injury earlier in the season.

Arsenal vs Everton Prediction:

Arsenal will have confidence coming into this game and have good players. Being at home will be an advantage for Arsenal but Everton having Carlo Ancelotti in the dug out is also a big advantage and one would expect the Italian to be a match for Mikel Arteta. Results are starting to come Everton’s way now, perhaps the biggest obstacle to beating the big teams away from home is more of a psychological one, like losing to a young Liverpool team at Anfield. However maybe if that game was played now Everton would win it. Despite Everton's improved form, it's difficult to back them away from home, especially against one of the bigger teams, however it's also difficult to back Arsenal to win when they have drawn so many games recently. Therefore the safest option is to back Arsenal but with the draw covered for slightly shorter than ideal odds.
