These selections can be found in the Portugal League Cup (Taca da Liga) and the Spanish Copa del Rey.
Our first selection (Asian handicap -1 Benfica) have a ridiculously strong record in this competition, not only have they won the Taca da Liga the last three consecutive seasons, they have also won it an incredible seven times in the last eight seasons, so Benfica clearly take this cup seriously. Regarding the two teams tonight, neither will have home advantage as the tie will be played at a neutral venue, which will make the outcome more related to team quality alone, therefore the advantage has to be with Benfica. Benfica lead the Primeira Liga by 4 points over Porto, and they have a record of 14 wins, 3 draws, and just 1 loss, scoring 41 goals and conceding only 11. If we compare that to Moreirense who have 5 wins, 2 draws, and 11 losses, scoring only 17 goals yet conceding 29, then on records alone Benfica are clearly a stronger side. However, when you look at their head2head record, the gulf in class appears even clearer, with Benfica winning the last 10 consecutive times these two teams have met in all competitions. There should be only one winner tonight, and that's Benfica.
Our second selection (Asian handicap -1 Barcelona) finally broke their amazing 9 year wait for a win at Real Sociedad's Estadio Anoeta stadium in the first leg of this tie, with a hard fought 1-0 win. The second leg however will be played at Barcelona's Camp Nou where Barcelona have a considerably better head2head record of 16 straight wins (my records don't go back any further), most of which by are 2 or more goals. Barcelona have been in great goal scoring for at home of late, scoring 23 goals in their last 5 games in all competitions, and conceding only 2 in the process. Their opponents tonight (Real Sociedad) have been in great form this season, especially when playing at home, however they have a goal to make up tonight, which means they will have to attack and this could leave gaps at the back for Barcelona to exploit. Barcelona are not the kind of team to let a lead go, they usually end up increasing it, especially when the second leg is at Camp Nou. Therefore although Real Sociedad have played some great football this season, having to chase the game tonight will play right into Barcelona's hands and this should end up being a comfortable win for Barca.
