Our first selection (Juventus) come into this Coppa Italia match as defending Champions of the last 2 years, so clearly they take this competition seriously, which is good news considering how unpredictable Cup games can be. We all know how good Juventus are, they are top of the league by 4 points from AS Roma and with a game in hand, they also have the best defensive record in the league with just 14 goals conceded in 18 games, and they are 100% at home in the league with 10 wins from 10 games. On top of that, their home record against tonight opponents (Atalanta) reads 7 straight victories. To make matters worse for Atalanta, one of their most gifted and in-form players Franck Kessie is unavailable due to playing at the Africa Cup of Nations. In favour of Atalanta though is the fact that they have scored more points away from home than any other team in Serie A this season, however they are playing the best team in Italy tonight at Juventus Stadium and therefore i can only see one winner, and that's Juventus.
Our second selection (Rio Ave) is an interesting one as any one of three teams (Maritimo, Braga, and Rio Ave) can qualify for the knockout phase of this League Cup Tournament. For Rio Ave though it's a simple equation of having to win tonight to stand a chance of qualifying, and they get to try and achieve this against the weakest team in the group (Covilha), whereas Maritimo v Braga could be a tight game where one team needs to win to guarantee qualification but a draw could send Maritimo through if Rio Ave fail to win. So, either way Rio Ave need a win, and although they are not one of the major forces in Portugal, they are a top half team in good form, only losing to Benfica in the last 5 games, which consisted of 3 wins. So against mid table Segunda Liga opposition who no longer have anything to play for in this Cup, Rio Ave should stand a great chance of getting the win.
