29th Dec 2016

Double Suggestion:

Thursday's Fixtures.

Double
Rotherham v Burton - Double chance (Rotherham or draw)
Benfica v Ferreira - Asian handicap (-1 Benfica)

N.B. Double Suggestions are posted when the fixture choice is poor and the confidence levels aren't high enough for an official "Tipster's Double".

At time of posting, odds of 1.96

These selections can be found in the England Championship and the Portugal League Cup (Taca da Liga).

Our first selection (Double chance - Rotherham or draw) have definitely shown signs of improvement under caretaker boss Paul Warne, with 2 home wins and 2 narrow 1 goal losses against strong teams Fulham and Sheffield Wed since taking over. Rotherham do sit bottom of the Championship and look in real trouble, and this is mainly thanks to their dreadful away record of just 1 point from a possible 36, however at New York Stadium they have a far more respectable record of 3 wins, 3 draws, and 5 losses, with most of their home defeats being by just 1 goal and against good quality sides. Their opponents today (Burton) also have a terrible away record of just 5 points from a possible 36, so not quite as bad as Rotherham's but they are still yet to record a win away from home, which is not hugely surprising considering they average less than a goal per game on their travels. With home advantage and the better form being with Rotherham today, and the goal threat of Danny Ward, i expect Rotherham to be able to get something out of tonights game with Burton.

Our second selection (Asian handicap -1 Benfica) should take this League Cup game seriously tonight considering they have won the cup each of the last 3 years, and only the top team in each group can progress to the play-off phase meaning there is very little room for slip ups. Anyone who know anything about Portuguese football will know Benfica are the top team in the league over the last few years, they have won the Primeira Liga the last 3 seasons, and have a 4 point lead at the top of the league this season also. At home this season they have only dropped points once in a 1-1 draw against Setubal, and have won the last 4 home match-ups against tonights opponents Ferreira. Ferreira are struggling in the bottom half of the league table and it's largely due to terrible away form of just 4 points from a possible 24, losing their last 5 away league games and their last 4 without even managing a goal. Taking quality and form into account, if Benfica take this game seriously, which history indicates they will do, this should be a comfortable home win.
