Our first selection (Cagliari) are in the bottom half of Serie A but still 7 points ahead of today's opponents Palermo, and that's largely because of their ability to score goals, because if it was based on defence alone they would be last. Cagliari have conceded a massive 23 goals in just 10 games, fortunately they have also managed to score 17 goals, which has enabled them to record 4 wins so far this season. In fairness, their home record defensively was only 1 goal conceded per game until their 5-3 loss to Fiorentina changed that, so generally they are far stronger defensively when playing at home. Palermo have just 1 win so far this season, and unusually that was away from home where they appear to be stronger. Generally speaking they struggle for goals, scoring only 7 all season, which is the 2nd lowest amount in the league and should make pleasant reading for Cagliari. With Cagliari having home advantage, and the draw being covered, this selection should stand a good chance.
Our second selection (Chaves) are newly promoted but are adjusting very well to life in the top division. As already mentioned in previous previews recently, their fixtures have been a little kind, with all opponents other than Benfica and Braga not being in the top 10 league positions, and they lost to both Benfica and Braga. They did however perform with good credibility against Braga, and they were away from home, so i think that shows they are a genuinely difficult team to face at home despite being new to the top flight. Their opponents today (Feirense) are also newly promoted, but have struggled defensively in this league, conceding twice as many goals as Chaves. Feirense have caused a couple of upsets this season, but Chaves have a good recent head2head record against them, therefore i see Chaves coming away from this game with at least a point today.
