Our first selection (Stromsgodset) should take this game seriously despite it being a domestic Cup game against weaker opposition as it is the semi final stage now, so not really the time to be taking too many risks. Stromsgodset play in the top Norway division and are sitting in a mid-table position, however their home record is one of the top records in the league, with 8 wins, 5 draws, and only 1 loss. Their opponents today (Kongsvinger) play in the league below and are sitting in 4th position, making them definite promotion candidates. This match against Stromsgodset will be a definite step up in class though, and although there may be some rotation from Stromsgodset, it shouldn't be too drastic considering the stage of the Cup being the semi finals. With a final against Rosenborg beckoning, expect Stromsgodset to do enough to progress today.
Our second selection (Rio Ave) are a decent top half team in the Portugal Premeira Liga, and have beaten the likes of Sporting already this season, although their recent results have been a little disappointing. As this is a Cup game, there may well be some rotation from both teams, which will add a level of unpredictability. Their opponents today (Chaves) are newly promoted but are adjusting very well to life in the top division. Their fixtures have been a little kind however, with all opponents other than Benfica and Braga not being in the top 10 league positions, and they lost to both Benfica and Braga. This being a cup game, anything can happen, however Rio Ave will be a much bigger test for Chaves than most of their opponents so far this season, and although Rio Ave aren't at the level of Benfica or Braga, they should be strong enough for this selection to be safe as the draw is covered.
