Our first selection (-1 Atletico Mineiro) were last seasons Brazil Serie A runners up and this season they are currently sitting in 3rd position. Their home record is formidable, with 11 wins, 1 draw, and only 2 losses from 14 home games, scoring 29 goals and conceding only 15. Their only home blips came at the beginning of the season, and since then they have gone on to win their next 10 straight home league games, so they come into this match with some great home form. Their opponents today (America MG) are newly promoted after finishing 4th in the Serie B last season, but have so far struggled with the increased standard of the Serie A. They currently sit in last position, 13 points off safety, with just 5 wins all season. They have the poorest away record by far, with 0 wins, 4 draws, and 10 losses, scoring just 10 goals yet conceding 28. On paper this should be a straight forward home win, and although the Brazil Leagues can be a little unpredictable, home advantage usually has a huge benefit in South American football, which is why I expect a comfortable win for Atletico Mineiro tonight.
Our second selection (Sporting) should win even more comfortably, however the "-1 asian handicap" option wasn't available. What does go against this selection though is the fact this is a Cup game, which brings the strong possibility of squad rotation, and that's the main reason this is just a double suggestion rather than an official "Tipster's Double". Sporting are one of the big three teams in the Portugal Primeira League, they finished 2nd to Benfica by just 2 points last season and will be looking to challenge for the title again this season. Their opponents today (Famalicao) by contrast are sitting in 18 position in the Segunda Liga, so their is a massive gulf in class here today. The outcome of this game all depends on how seriously Sporting take it, they will want to win of course, but they will want to do it with the minimum risk to their star players. Even a rotated team should have the quality to win today, but it does create a higher level of risk than if a full strength Sporting were playing tonight.
