Our first selection (Villarreal) have started their domestic season very well, going undefeated in their first 6 league matches, which even includes an away game against Real madrid. They also won their first Europa League match against Zurich despite going a goal down after only 2 minutes, and are one of the more likely teams to get to the later stages of this competition. Their opponents tonight (Steaua Bucharest) have also started their domestic season well, topping the Romania Liga 1, however their home form has actually been very average, with just 2 wins, 2 draws, and 1 loss, scoring only 5 goals and conceding 4. They were also completely outclassed at home against Man City when they lost 5-0 in the Champions League Qualifier. Obviously it would be preferable for Villarreal to have home advantage tonight, but they should still be plenty strong enough to win or draw at Steaua Bucharest.
Our second selection (Schalke) have had a terrible start to their domestic season, losing all 5 of their league games so far, scoring only 2 goals yet conceding 10. In fairness though, the 5 teams they have faced have only 2 losses in the 25 combined games they have played so far this season, so they have had some pretty tough fixtures. Their opponents tonight (Salzburg) have had a much better start to their domestic season, sitting in 2nd position with just the 1 loss in 9 games. They have however only won 2 of their 5 away games, and generally speaking the standard of the Austrian League isn't on the same level as the German league, so regardless of domestic form, Schalke still have the superior quality side on paper. Therefore, with home advantage and the better quality team, Schalke should be able to come away from this match with at least a point.
