Our first selection (Lyon) finished last season in 2nd place behind the unstoppable PSG, they recorded the 2nd highest number of goals, and 2nd highest number of wins. They were particularly strong when playing at home, with a home record of 12 wins, 4 draws, and 3 losses, scoring over 2 goals on average per home game (42 goals) and conceding less than 1 per game (16 goals), and they were only 8 points adrift of PSG in terms of home records. They have started the new season well with a 3-0 win away to Nancy, and they put 4 goals past today's opponents (Caen) both times they played each other last season. Caen finished 7th last season, which is pretty good, and they started this season with a 3-2 home win over Lorient, however Lorient were 2-0 up before a game changing red card after only 26 minutes enabled Caen to get back into the game. So maybe that early season win for Caen isn't a true reflection of their ability, and i think visiting a quality team like Lyon will be a very tough ask, especially considering their recent large losses to them. I expect a comfortable Lyon win tonight.
Our second selection (Sochaux) struggled at the beginning of last season and had a change of manager early on, but managed to improve towards the end of the season and avoid relegation. They play fairly tight football, and will be a difficult team to beat this season even if they don't record many big wins. They have started the new season well, with 2 wins and 1 draw, and haven't actually lost any of their last 10 games in all competitions, so appear to be in good form. Their opponents today (US Orleans 45) are newly promoted and have already lost 2 of their first 3 games this season. They will most likely be in a relegation battle this season and will look to play fairly tight away from home, hoping to pick up the odd point here and there. This could be a low scoring game, with neither team wanting to give much away. Sochaux will most likely be the attacking force, but not in a gung-ho manner, which is why with the draw covered, this selection should be pretty safe.
