Our first selection (Celtic) have shown definite signs of improvement since their shockingly embarrassing away loss to Lincoln Red Imps, in particular when playing at home. Their only subsequent losses have been away to Barcelona and Inter, which is nothing to be embarrassed about, and they have beaten FC Astana, Hearts, and Motherwell. They are very strong at home, and due to their more patchy away form they will be looking to try and gain an advantage from this first leg. Their opponents tonight (Hapoel Beer Sheva) play their domestic football in Israel, which makes it difficult to assess their quality in comparison to Celtic's, however i would expect Celtic to have the edge, especially with home advantage, and with the draw covered, this selection should be fairly safe.
Our second selection (No clean sheet - Porto) is slightly more risky because Porto are a good side and they have home advantage. However since Spalletti took over at Roma midway through last season, Roma have become a bit of a goal scoring team. The last time Roma didn't manage to score a goal was in March against Real Madrid, since then they have scored in their next 16 games, scoring more than 1 goal in 12 of those 16 games. An away goal would be very useful in this tie, therefore i expect Roma to try and get at least 1 goal tonight to put them in a good position for the 2nd leg at home. On top of that, Porto have conceded at least 1 goal in 14 of their last 20 games in all competitions, so they are not the most solid at the back recently. In summary, it could be tricky, but the stats are definitely suggesting Roma will score.
