Our first selection (Kilmarnock) could really do with a win today to help their chances of progressing to the next stage of the League Cup. After getting off to a winning start to the group stage, they then suffered a poor performance and loss at home to Championship side Morton. They will be looking to up their game in this match away to Berwick, who play 3 divisions below Kilmarnock in League 2. Kilmarnock have had a bit of a squad clear out over the summer, and brought in 11 new signings after a poor league performance last year, and their loss to Morton should act as a wake-up call to the players. Berwick have suffered a couple of defeats on penalties so far in their League Cup campaign, proving they can put up some resistance, however even with home advantage, they really shouldn't on paper have enough to stop a Premiership side that needs the win.
Our second selection (Motherwell) also really need the win today with Rangers already qualified, and Stranraer 3 points ahead in 2nd place, and being at home to East Stirling today who finished bottom of League 2 last season, this really should be a big home victory. Motherwell are a Premiership side, and a decent one too, finishing last season in 5th position, although they can be a little unpredictable, beating Celtic away from home last season but also losing to them 7-0 in the same season. With such a big difference in class today though, even a poor Motherwell performance should be enough to beat an East Stirling side who have conceded 3 goals in both of their League Cup games so far. Motherwell need the win today, and they should look to make sure of it by getting at least a 2 goal cushion.
