Our first selection (Zamalek) are the defending League champions of Egypt. They have a formidable home record, going undefeated at home in the league for the whole of last season, and continuing that trend despite managerial troubles by having 6 wins, 2 draws, 0 losses so far at home this season. Their form hasn't been up to the standard of last season, however they recently fired their manager Mido (remember him Spurs fans?) after only 1 month in charge, so the players will be playing for their places now. Zamalek will be looking to close the 5 point gap to leaders Al Ahly tonight, and with tonight's opponents (Al Ittihad) being on a 5 game losing streak, this match has come at a good time for Zamalek. Al Ittihad's main problem is their lack of ability to score goals, with only 12 scored from 18 league games. So when a poor attack comes up against the best home defence in the league, it's unlikely Al Ittihad will score, making it even more likely that Zamalek will be able to get at least 1 goal, which should be enough for a win.
Our second selection (Besiktas) are one of the few strong teams today without an upcoming European competition to distract them, in fact their next match against Fenerbahce make this game against Genclerbirlgi all the more important. Besiktas currently have 2 games in hand but a 2 point deficit over Fenerbahce at the top of the Turkey Super League, therefore to stay in an advantageous position they have to win this game tonight against Genclerbirlgi to ensure that even if they lose to Fenerbahce in their next match, they will still be in a position to overtake them at the top of the table if they win their extra game in hand.
Genclerbirlgi have had some good results recently, which has pushed them 8 points clear of the relegation zone. This may work to Besiktas' advantage as they may now feel that cushion from the bottom 3 teams means they won't have to scrap for every single point now, where as Besiktas really have to win this game, and they certainly have the superior quality which should enable them to do so. With the importance of tonights game for Besiktas, and the fact they will be focused 100% on this game, i expect them to win the match and end Genclerbirlgi's decent run of results.
