Match Preview:
Arsenal could be in 2nd place by the time of this kick off if Manchester City have beaten Leicester a day before. But that won’t matter to the Gunners who have been very focused this season and have looked, at times, brilliant. Mikel Arteta’s side will be the odds on favourites to win this game and it would be a huge surprise if they were to drop points here.
Arsenal have won 9 of their opening 11 games and yet there is Manchester City hounding them, and City remain the biggest danger over Arteta’s side to ruin what would feel like a historic title. While most of the season has been great for Arsenal there have been some chinks in the armour of late. A draw away to Southampton last weekend felt like two points dropped and then in the Europa League in midweek they lost 2-0 against PSV away from home so Arteta needs to get his team back on track. Being back at the Emirates is a good start though and they have a 100% record here and are scoring almost 3 goals a game. They have impressively put 6 goals past their last two opponents at home in Tottenham and Liverpool.
Nottingham Forest and Steve Cooper are still hanging in there and while they are bottom of the league it’s just one defeat in their last four games. There have been recent draws with Aston Villa and Brighton and last weekend they won just their 2nd game of the season beating of all teams Liverpool. That was of course a huge win and should give Cooper who has been under pressure to keep his job some credit in the bank. However away from home Forest are yet to register a win, they have conceded 14 goals from six games played and perhaps the most damning statistic is they have scored just 1 goal on the road, that came at Everton.
Team News:
Arsenal: Marquinhos is a doubt as he missed the European game in midweek with illness. Oleksandr Zinchenko will be assessed but remains a doubt after his calf injury. Matt Turner has a groin injury but it isn’t thought to be serious. Mohamed Elneny and Emile Smith-Rowe are out until after the World Cup.
Nottingham Forest: Lewis O’Brien was ill but he is being tipped to be fine for this game. Harry Toffolo is out for a few weeks due to his hamstring, Omar Richards is still sidelined with a leg injury. Moussa Niakhate is not due back for another two weeks at least due to a muscle injury and Jack Colback is out with his back with no fixed return date.
Arsenal vs Nottm Forest Head to Head:
The clubs last met at the Emirates in the Carabao Cup back in 2019 when Arsenal won 5-0.
At the beginning of the year the clubs met again in the FA Cup and Nottingham Forest won 1-0 at home.
The last time the teams played in the Premier League was in 1999 and Arsenal won 1-0.
Arsenal vs Nottm Forest Prediction:
Head to head’s can be very fascinating to look at because of the history and patterns and the bogey teams. However in this case we can dismiss much of this since these teams have not played each other in the league for 23 years. There have been some cup games inbetween and we know that Forest have come out better when at home, but not away. Credit needs to be given to Cooper who must be working over time trying to get the best out of his side and he needs some time because they are starting to pick up points and should be more solid at home.
However on the road that remains a big problem for Forest and they are about to face one of the real quality sides in the league and the team in 1st place coming into this weekend. We don’t expect to see any shocks here and this should be a routine win for the Gunners, but they are huge odds on to do so, so we will look into different markets.
