We witnessed some fantastic performances from young players in the 2019/20 Premier League season. You only have to look at the PFA Young Player of the Year award to see some of the brightest young talent in the league. Liverpool's Trent Alexander-Arnold won the award for a fantastic 2019/20 campaign, but who could be about to challenge him for the honour in the 2020/21 Premier League season?

One man who will be hoping to get his chance as a regular starter for Manchester City in the Premier League is Phil Foden. The 20 year old forced his way into the thinking of Pep Guardiola last season and produced some excellent displays towards the end of the campaign. As always, we expect to see Manchester City spend big in the transfer market but Foden will be hoping to get his chance in the starting XI, specially following the departure of club legend, David Silva.

Foden has all the attributes required to excel in a Guardiola team. Great control, movement, passing and the ability to score goals is evident in Foden's game and if he does start regularly, expect to see fireworks. Foden could even come into contention for the England squad at the delayed European Championship.

Mason Greenwood's place in the Manchester United team could come under threat from the potential arrival of Jadon Sancho from Borussia Dortmund. However, the forward could easily switch from playing wide to the central strikers positioned and his finishing ability is fantastic. Greenwood has what it takes to be a 20 goal a season player at Old Trafford and big things are expected during the 20/21 Premier League season.

Billy Gilmour made the breakthrough into Chelsea's midfield towards the end of last season. Unfortunately, a bad injury means the Scot is set to miss the beginning of the new Premier League season. Nonetheless, when he returns to full fitness it will be interesting to see how he develops in the Chelsea team going forward and is certainly one to watch.

You cannot underestimate the impact of young players at Premier League clubs, just look at the performances of Alexander-Arnold last season. Not only are the youngsters aiming to prove themselves at the highest level but also lead their clubs to success. In addition to the four players highlighted above, there are many other young players to watch out for in the 2020/21 Premier League season. Arsenal will be hoping Brazilian forward Gabriel Martinelli stays fit and is so he could add plenty of goals to the Arsenal attack. The versatile Bukayo Saka is another Arsenal player who could develop into a key first team regular.
