Wolves vs Watford: Preview & Prediction

England Premier League

Match Preview:

Wolves are more than safe and have had a very solid season given that they started the new campaign with a fresh manager in Bruno Lage. The Portuguese manager had a slow start with the club but has successfully fitted in to the clubs philosophy and they have pulled off some wonderful results and come into this game in 8th place.

There are disappointments for Wolves though and that is because a few weeks ago they were looking like being a surprise team to challenge for 4th but after losing their last 3 games they now find themselves 8 points from that objective, and 4th place considering the amount of teams that are in front of them won’t be happening this season. A European finish is looking slimmer by the week too but they still have  a chance to mount a challenge if they can find their form again. The worry for Wolves is that apart from the Arsenal defeat they would have believed they could have done better against West Ham and Crystal Palace in their recent defeats. It’s also just 1 goal in 3 games for the club but this is a home match where they will be fancied to take all three points.

Watford along with Norwich look most likely to be relegated this season. They have put up a fight with Roy Hodgson in charge and it isn’t over for them just yet but it is looking so. The Hornets have earned 4 points from their last 12 on offer but at the weekend they lost 3-2 at home to Arsenal. Not the worst scoreline of course given Arsenal’s superiority but still a loss and that was the clubs 18th of the season. Hodgson’s side are in 19th place with 19 points and are just 3 points from safety. The problem is that because of goal difference that is effectively 4 points and they have played 2 more games than 17th placed Everton so the odds are stacked against them if they are going to survive this season. On the bright side there is still 33 points on the board so who knows what can happen in the coming weeks.

The Hornets away form is slightly better than their home and we have to note their recent away form has been rather impressive with just one defeat from their last five and six points earned from their last 15. Hodgson’s side have gone their last two away games undefeated and that includes a very impressive 0-0 draw away to Manchester United.

Team News:

Wolves: Ki-Jana Hoever has a muscle injury and could miss this game although he will be assessed ahead of it. Nelson Semedo is out for another month with a muscle injury.

Watford: Joshua King could be back after his hamstring injury and will be assessed. Nicolas N’Koulou has a lack of match fitness and looks very doubtful for this game. Jeremy Ngakia is likely to miss out here but should return in 4-5 days time.

Wolves vs Watford Head to Head:

Wolves won this fixture 2-0 the last time the clubs played here.

Wolves have won 3 of the last four meetings.

There is a 60% chance to see both teams to score.

Wolves vs Watford Prediction:

Wolves have been in very poor form but they still have the chance to qualify for Europe next season so there has to be a turnaround at the club. This will be a very competitive game as Wolves are chasing Europe and Watford are trying to survive. If the Hornets can keep the score at 0-0 by half time then with the system that Hodgson has adapted they have every chance to win this game and they are a great price at 5.00.

Wolves have a hard fixture list coming up though and they are losing consecutive games, and they must correct this when playing at home as they are away to Everton next. Our choice is for this game to end in a draw but that can always be risky of course and so for the value backing the double chance in favour of Watford could be the safest option here.
