England Premier League
Sunday 22nd August 2021
Kick off at 2pm BST
Venue: Molineux Stadium
Match Preview:
An early reunion will take place on Sunday because only a few months after leaving Wolves Nuno Espirito Santo will be back at the club, this time in the visitors dug out for the first time in four years.
As for the home side everyone is getting used to having Bruno Lage around as the new manager for the club. His tenure at the club started in defeat as Wolves went down 1-0 at Leicester. In reality though the club were lively and had 17 attempts at goal, not bad for an away side. A first game away to the Foxes who finished 5th last season was never going to be easy and there may have been a lot to take away from the game for Lage despite defeat.
This game will have returning fans back and most will be getting to witness Lage for the first time. Emotions will be running high too with the return of Raul Jimenez up front, playing his first home game. Jimenez of course has missed the last 9 months due to a head injury after an accidental clash with David Luiz.
Tottenham caused an upset for some as they beat the current champions Manchester City 1-0 at home on the opening weekend of the season. While City had the swagger, Tottenham had the dagger and just had more of a killer instinct about them. It was an absolutely fantastic victory for the club and if new manger Santo wants to warm the hearts of Tottenham fans then presently he is going about it in the right way.
However in their first ever UEFA Conference League game on Thursday Tottenham lost 1-0 against Portuguese side Pacos Ferreria. Santo made many changes to his team and it is clear that he is prioritising this game over the European one. Still after the 1st leg ended in a narrow defeat Tottenham could still go through if they put in a shift in the 2nd leg, so there is a lot to play for.
The Harry Kane saga is continuing for the club and with 11 days to go before the window closes Kane is still a Tottenham player. Does that mean he will be picked for this game? Or behind the scenes do they all know it is just a matter of time before Kane leaves, we will have to see.
Team News:
Wolves: Willy Boly has a hamstring injury and is a doubt for this game. Jonny has been out since April with a knee injury and there are no updates on him. Pedro Neto is still out with a long term knee injury. Daniel Podence has an on going groin injury and looks set to miss out again.
Tottenham: Harry Kane has a lack of match fitness but will be assessed.
Wolves vs Tottenham Head to Head:
Last season this fixture ended 1-1.
Wolves haven’t beaten Tottenham when at home since 2010.
6 of the last seven meetings has seen both teams to score.
Wolves vs Tottenham Prediction:
We expect to see a lively game and the key here is to see both teams to score. Historically this is a great return, plus despite not scoring last weekend Wolves had almost 20 chances on goal and now being at home we would expect them to have plenty of chances here. Tottenham will create a lot too and up front Heung-Min Son remains a constant threat.
Tottenham could edge this game if they play as well as they did last weekend, they got the goal but also played at times with maturity and assurance and that could go a long way for the club this season.
We will also back Jimenez to score on what will be an emotional day for him in front of his own fans, but Wolves could end up the losing side at the weekend against a very confident Tottenham team.
Wolves vs Tottenham Betting Tips:
Asian handicap (0.0 Tottenham) at 1.70
Both teams to score at 1.80
Anytime goalscorer: Heung-Min Son at 2.50
Anytime goalscorer: Raul Jimenez at 2.50
