Wolves vs Tottenham: Preview & Prediction

England Premier League
Saturday 4th March 2023
Kick off at 3pm GMT
Venue: Molineux Stadium

Match Preview:

Tottenham will have it in their minds that their nearest rival for a top four finish Newcastle are wobbling and the Londoners have gone 4 points clear of Eddie Howe’s side and into fourth. The only problem is that Newcastle have 2 games in hand and so Spurs need to find real consistency and keep winning games, it is the only solution as we head into the final third of the season.

There is disappointment in the Tottenham camp though and that is they were sensationally knocked out of the FA Cup by Sheffield United losing 1-0. There has been much talk of Harry Kane this season and how he is smashing club records and certainly has Alan Shearer’s Premier League record of 260 goals in his sights (Kane currently has 201). But this season looks destined to be another one where Kane will remain trophyless and one would expect that it is playing on the England international’s mind. Tottenham are in good form at least with 4 wins from their past five games and they have recently despatched two London sides in West Ham and Chelsea both by the same score line of 2-0. However both games were at home and now the club is back on the road and in their last away game they were thrashed 4-1 by a Leicester side who have struggled for most of the season.

Wolves are in 15th place but are certainly one of eight teams who could be involved in a battle for survival. The club are only three points from the bottom three and in their last game they lost 2-0 at Liverpool and had to play in midweek. Wolves form has been a mixed bag although it is now 3 games without a win including the Liverpool defeat Julen Lopetegui’s side has also lost against Bournemouth when at home and drawn to Fulham. It isn’t all doom and gloom though and if the home side could pull off a victory they would have the chance depending on other results around them to climb up two more places which is gold at this point in the season.

Team News:

Wolves: Hwang Hee-Chan is expected to miss another week with his hamstring injury. Hugo Bueno is out for at least the next four weeks with the same problem. Matheus Cunha is being pencilled in to return for this fixture following his ankle injury.

Tottenham: There are no new injuries for the club but Hugo Lloris, Ryan Sessegnon and Yves Bissouma remain out. Rodrigo Bentancur is out for the season with a knee injury.

Wolves vs Tottenham Head to Head:

The last league game played here between the two was in 2021 and Tottenham won 1-0.

Earlier in the season in the reverse fixture Tottenham won 1-0.

It’s been 13 years since Wolves beat Tottenham when at home.

Wolves vs Tottenham Prediction:

Most will be predicting another win for Tottenham and if Newcastle as expected drop points this weekend to Manchester City then Tottenham are going to see daylight. It’s that big a game for Tottenham who of course have the players to not only win this game but perhaps walk out 2-0 or 3-0 winners, and yet this is Tottenham.

Tottenham could win this game but the value is with the home side, and true Wolves history over Tottenham here is nothing to write about but the club have won on numerous occasions in other games and they may pose Tottenham as a surprise. They have recently beaten a tricky side in West Ham and despatched Liverpool 3-0 at this ground and if they can get the first goal they could be hard to beat and are a terrific price to upset their visitors.
